Yo. Listen up, punk. This is my Monkey Island FAQ and all that, and I don't
want you to steal it. So don't. You can print it out for personal use. But
you can't print it out and sell it. You can put it on your site, but you have
to ask first. I'll probably grant you permission. If you do it without
permission, I'll contact your host and/or ISP and have your site taken down. So
watch it, foo. In other words, don't put it anywhere without permission,
don't take info from it, and don't say you did it. That's pretty much all
there is to it. For more information concerning such matters, check out the
full copyright statement at the bottom of the document.

I don't want your filthy stuff, so don't send it. The only types of email I
want from you are:

 - Questions not found in either the game manual or this guide
 - Additions to the guide that aren't in here
 - Corrections

I don't want:
 - Questions answered here or in the manual
 - Additions that are useless or already here
 - Viruses, forwards, chain letters
 - Anything else like that

You only need to email me once. If I didn't want it the first time, I won't
want it the second time, either. I'll reply, and although I'll try to answer
ASAP, no guarantees. Got it? Good. Let's move on. But before we do, kindly
check out the contact info. It gets a little more detailed than this, and you
don't wanna make me mad... ^_~

Hiya. This is my third or so FAQ, the first one made for GameFAQs. The others
weren't actually FAQs, so they don't matter. Anyway, that's done with. Hiya
and welcome to my Secret of Monkey Island FAQ. Enjoy your stay. And don't eat
the carrots.

This is a pretty old game, so updates are few and far between. Yep. It's been
three months since the last one. Sorry. Hopefully that won't happen again.
But eh. I'm hopefully gonna be done after this one. Yay for older games...

The Secret of Monkey Island was released way back in the days of old (a.k.a.
1990) by LucasArts Entertainment Company. It's the beginning of a series of
humorous adventure games that has spawned numerous fan sites, hopes for a
movie, and one of the strangest newsgroups that I've stumbled across:
alt.games.lucas-arts.monkey-island (AGLAMI). Stop on by if you some free
time. You probably won't find me there, though. I don't have time to sit
around and wait for 15,000 new topics to load.

Guybrush is the protagonist [for those of you out there who don't know what
that means, a protagonist is a main character, or, as my dictionary puts it:
pro-tag'o-nist (prö-tãg'ö-nïst), n. One who takes the leading part in a
drama; hence, one who takes the lead in any great matter.] of the Monkey
Island series. His main goal in life is to be a mighty pirate, but of course
he also wants to get rich, marry Elaine Marley (the governor of Mêlée
Island), and be captain of his own ship. Should be easy, right? I always find
it so. Guybrush is kinda wimpy, and he gets nervous around the ladies. Mrrfl.

Governor of Mêlée Island, owner of some rather pissed off poodles, and
Guybrush Threepwood's one true love, Elaine is the 'damsel in distress', or
would be if she wasn't perfectly capable of taking care of herself. Her plans
are usually ruined by Guybrush, but she loves him nonetheless. I can't see
why... He's not a big talker, he's lacking in looks, and he's a wimp. His
personality isn't great, and he probably can't even make a decent omelette.
And I'm betting he's bad with children. But hey, we can't all have great
taste in men...

He's dead, he's into voodoo, and he's allergic to root beer. He also happens
to be the antagonist [ant-tag'o-nist (ãn-tãg'õ-nïst), n. One who contends
with another, esp. in combat; adversary; opponent. -- Syn. Enemy, foe, rival,
competitor.] of the Monkey Island series. He really digs Elaine, but rather
than trying to make her fall for him, he takes the classic villain approach
and just kidnaps her.

As in most of the LucasArts adventure games of the early '90s, the controls
in this game are fairly simple. On the bottom of your screen, there's a large
black area. On the left side, you can see the actions you can use. A diagram
of this is shown above.

You use these commands by moving the cursor over the command you want to use
and clicking it, then moving the cursor over the object, person, or thing you
want to use the command on and clicking on it. You can see what command or
item is in use, and what your cursor is over, by checking the command line
above the items and commands. The uses of the commands are as follows:

Give:
Use this command to give an item to another person

Open:
This is used on doors, boxes, cabinets, et cetera. It's pretty much self-
   explanatory.

Close:
The reverse of open. Again, it's pretty easy to grasp the concept of this
   command.

Pick up:
Use this command on any objects in the game not currently in your
   inventory. Another simple command.

Look at:
This command can be used on pretty much anything in the game. People,
objects, items, animals, plants, and everything else.

Talk to:
Use this one on people to see what they've got to say. Even if you don't
need to, it can often be amusing to engage in conversation with the people
in this game because of the witty remarks and comments made.

Use:
This command will select an item from your inventory, push or pull
things, and do lots of other fun stuff. If you can't figure out what else
   to do, try this one.

Push:
Push on something. Turn something. Et cetera.

Pull:
   Opposite of pull.

Walk to:
The default command, this one isn't listed in the command window on the
screen. You use it to move around on the screen, or move between screens,
or anything else that involves movement.

Of course, those aren't the only commands those are the basics. There are
others. These are used just by pressing the key or button necessary to use
them. Quite simple. They are as follows:

Right-Click:
On items or people, this will cause Guybrush to use the 'Look at'
command. On doors, it will be 'Open' or 'Close,' depending on the current
state of the door. On handles, it will be 'Push' or 'Pull.'

F1:
Hitting F1 on your keyboard will bring up the menu. From here, you can
save or load your game or quit. To get out of here, just press the 'Play'
   button.

Spacebar:
Hitting the spacebar while playing will pause your game. Hit it again to
   unpause it.

Escape:
The escape key will skip over cutscenes and credits so you don't have to
watch them every time you want to play the game.

To save your game, go into the menu (press F1) and select Save. Choose which
drive you want to save your game on by clicking on the button on the top
right, then click on any of the empty slots on the left side and type in a
file name. Press the OK button to save the game, or the Cancel to go back to
the menu without saving. If you click on a file that you have already used to
save a game, the file will be replaced. After pressing OK, the menu will
close.

To load a game, open the menu and choose the load option by pressing the
button labelled Load. Click on whichever file you want to load by clicking on
it or pressing enter when the cursor is over it. The game will be loaded and
the menu closed. Again, you can select which drive you want to load from, or
go back to the menu by pressing cancel.

Here, you meet Guybrush. He introduces himself to the blind lookout atop the
mountain. They'll talk for a bit. He tells you to go talk to the pirate
leaders in the Scumm Bar. When they finish, you can go two different ways.

If you want to explore a little bit, head off to the right side of the screen
to the island overview. Most of the locations are shown here in colored
spots, and those that aren't you'll either run into later, or you can just
move your mouse around until you see something. There's nothing you can do
here now, so you might as well head back to the village or the lookout point,
which are in the lower left corner of the map. Either one will take you to
the lookout point, so it doesn't matter which one you go to.

After exploring, or if you choose not to explore at all, walk to the stairs
on the lookout screen. Guybrush will go down the stairs and down the mountain
path and onto the dock. On the first building you encounter, you can see a
poster. You can look at it if you want to, or just walk away. You can not
pick it up. When you're finished, walk to the right side of the screen. Doing
this twice will get you to the Scumm Bar, which is where the lookout advised
you to go. Open and walk to the door.

You will be faced with a room full of drunken pirates in blue suits. You can
also see a dog, and occasionally, the cook. Talk to these pirates if you
wish; some of them have interesting things to say. Well, not really. But talk
to them if you're bored. When you're done, head over to the curtains on the
right side of the room.

Seated at a table here are the important-looking pirates. Talk to them, or
wait for the cook to leave the kitchen and go in there.

When you talk to them, they'll tell you how to become a pirate. For more
details, ask them what you need to do to become a pirate. Or just look here.

The three tasks are as follows:
 - Mastering the art of the sword: Track down and defeat the Sword Master.
 - Mastering the art of thievery: Steal an idol from the governor's
   mansion.
 - Mastering the art of treasure-huntery: Find the Lost Treasure of Mêlée
   Island.

When you finish talking to the important looking pirates, or if you choose to
do this before talking to them, wait for the chef to come out of the kitchen.
When he passes the curtains, walk to the kitchen door. If you open it while
he's in there, he'll kick you out, and if you try to go in while he's still
on the screen, he'll tell you not to go in there. Anyway, just wait for him
to leave and then you can go in.

Once in there, the first thing you'll want to do is grab the pot under the
counter. Well, maybe not want. But it's the first thing you _should_ do. Then
you can pick up the hunk o' meat on the counter. Toss it into the soup if you
want. Then pick it up again and you'll have stewed meat. Actually, it doesn't
really matter if you do that now or later, but you should probably get it
done now to save any extra trips to the kitchen. That done, open the door on
the right side of the kitchen and head out to the dock.

Once you are outside, walk to the end of the dock and move around until you
hit the loose board. Walk on the board until the bird flies away, then run in
and pick up the salmon. Walk back into the kitchen, then back into the bar.
Leave the building.

You'll see a little cutscene here. Watch it. Or press the escape key to skip
it.

Walk to the left and back up the mountain to the lookout point. Walk to the
right and go to the overview. Go to the clearing (the colored dot in the
approximate center of the island). Walk to the left then head on over to the
circus tent.

When you enter, you'll see two guys in ridiculous outfits arguing about
cannon testing. These are the Fettucini brothers. When you get a chance, say
something. Any of the options you're given will work. They'll dash over to
Guybrush and offer him a job. Ask how much they'll pay you (the answer is 478
pieces o' eight), then take the offer. Tell them you have a helmet. When they
ask for it, give them your pot. Watch Guybrush get smash into the pole. Whee!
It doesn't matter what you say here. They'll go back to their bickering.

Now, move your cursor around until you find the fork. Click on it. Take the
upper left path. Pick up the yellow flowers on the right side of the screen,
then go back out.

Go back to the overview, then back to the lookout point, down the stairs, and
back into town. Or just click on the village and you'll automatically end up
going down the cliff.

Walk to the right until you reach an archway, then head through it. Guybrush
will find himself in the main part of town.

You can talk to the citizen of Mêlée, but you'll only get something out of
him if you tell him that you once had a barber named Dominique (this will be
back later in the MI series). Then he'll offer to sell you a map, which you
should buy.

Across the street, you can see three men and a rat. Talk to the men. If you
insult the rat then move the cursor over it, they'll tell you not to touch
it. If you do this enough, the rat will run away. If you talk to them about
the guy across the street, they'll call his maps cheap and try to sell you a
real map. Then they'll confess that they're selling the minutes to the last
Mêlée Island PTA meeting and ask if you still want them. Say you'll take one
if they give you 2 pieces o' eight. Easiest money you'll ever earn. In this
game, anyway.

Now, head up the street and open the first door on the right. Walk in. You'll
find yourself in a shop full of chickens. The only thing you can pick up in
here is the rubber chicken sitting on the trunk in the lower-right corner of
the room. Grab that, then walk over to the right side of the room to meet the
voodoo lady.

She knows everything you're going to say before you actually say it. Ask
about everything you can, and when she asks if you're sure you want to know
the future, say yes. She'll tell you a bit, then disappear in a puff of
smoke. Leave the shop.

Walk through the archway under the clock to get to the back part of town.
Head into the first building. Once inside, pick up the sword (it's on the red
and blue boxes behind the counter) and the shovel, which is in the top left
corner upstairs. You can try to leave, but the shopkeeper will yell at you and
you'll have to go back and pay. So just talk to him. Ask him about the
sword and shovel and buy both of them. Then leave.

Ignore the sounds coming from the alley (or go investigate...nothing
changes). Walk past the church and the jail and through the the other
archway. Then walk to Governor's mansion.

If you want to get into the Governor's mansion, you'll have to get past those
deadly piranha poodles firt. Use the yellow petals you picked up in the
forest on the stewed meat. Give the meat with condiment to the deadly piranha
poodles. Open the door to the mansion and walk in.

Open the door at the top of the screen and walk in. LYAO at the next scene.
And pay close attention to the actions Guybrush is using.

When that's over, walk out of the mansion and back down to town. Walk into
the jail (that's the building on the left) and talk to the prisoner. Guybrush
will make a comment or two about poor dental hygiene, then refuse to talk to
the prisoner until his breath improves. Walk out of the jail and over to the
store.

Talk to the storekeeper and tell him that you could really use a breath mint.
He'll give you an entire package of Grog-O-Mints for only one piece o' eight.
Go back to the jail.

Give the breath mints you just bought at the store to the prisoner. Ask him
if he's got a file. He'll offer to give you his only possession, the carrot
cake his Aunt Tillie made him, if you give him something to get rid of the
rats. Give him the gopher repellent you picked up in the mansion. Use the
cake. Walk back to the mansion.

Walk over to the gaping hole in the wall where the painting used to be. LYAO
some more as Guybrush gets the idol.

It doesn't matter what you say here. The sheriff will go away, leaving
Guybrush alone with Elaine. Again, whichever option you choose, there will be
no changes whatsoever in the storyline. Open the door so you can leave.

Your escape will be cut off by Fester Shinetop, who will tie Guybrush to the
idol and huck him into the ocean.

Remember when Guybrush was talking to the pirate leaders and they asked if he
had any special skills? Guybrush said he could hold his breath for 10
minutes. And it's true. You've got 10 minutes to get out of the water. Ignore
the sharp objects lying everywhere that you could use to cut the rope if they
were close to you. All you have to do is pick up the idol. Guybrush will grab
the sword and climb out. Or you could stay for 10 minutes, let Guybrush
suffocate, and read all the conversations going on overhead and admire the
nice colors Guybrush will turn. This is the only way to die in Monkey Island.
Savor it.

When Guybrush reaches the dock, Elaine Marley will show up. They'll talk for
a minute, call each other a few names (Plunder Bunny?), then make plans to go
back to the mansion for some...happy time. But first, Guybrush has to finish
the trials.

Walk to the right, then head up the mountain and over to the path. Go to the
house on the right side of the island.

Halfway there, Guybrush will be stopped by a troll on a bridge. Just give him
the fish you picked up in the kitchen, and walk past. The troll will make
sure nobody is looking, then whip off his mask, revealing a guy who strongly
resembles George Lucas. The guy eats the fish, then puts the mask back on. Go
to the house.

Open the door to the house. Guybrush will knock, and a big guy with a smoking
problem will answer, insult you a bit, and ask what you want. Ask him to
train you. He'll laugh at you some more, but insist that you do have what it
takes until he tells you that he likes your spirit and say he'll train you if
you give him 30 pieces o' eight. Tell him you've got 30 pieces o' eight show
him you sword, and he'll let you in.

Guybrush will wave his sword around a bit, then the trainer will bring
out...THE MACHINE! After a few hours of this, you'll learn the true secret of
sword fighting.

He'll teach you a few insults, then send you out to learn some more at the
hands of the pirates that are wandering around the island. Head out to the
path, stop somewhere on the island (anywhere that isn't an actual location
will do), and wait for an opponent to show up. Check the sword fighting guide
for more information.

Run around fighting until you have all of the insults and their responses
(there are 16 of them), then you're ready to fight the Sword Master. Or you
could just wait until the pirates say, "Wow! You're good enough to fight the
Sword Master!" when you defeat them. You'll still be missing a few responses
when they first start to say that, so you might want to hold out for a bit
and get the others.

When you're ready to fight the Sword Master, head back to the village and go to
the store. Talk to the storekeeper and tell him that you're looking for
the Sword Master, then follow him. Go to the island overview.

Try to keep up with the storekeeper. If you can't, the correct way to go is
to take the following paths:
 - Top-Left
 - Top
 - Right
 - Right
 - Left
 - Top
 - (Push Sign)
 - Right

Guybrush will evesdrop on the conversation between the Sword Master and the
storekeeper. When the storekeeper leaves, walk to the Sword Master and talk
to her. Challenge her to a fight. If you defeat her, you'll get a 100% Cotton
T-shirt. Otherwise, she'll go into her house and you'll have to walk away
then come back before you can challenge her again. Once you've defeated her,
head back out of the forest, then click on the fork.

Look at the map you bought from the citizen of Mêlée and follow the
directions found within. If you can't do that, take the following paths:
 - Top-Left
 - Left
 - Right
 - Left
 - Right
 - Top
 - Right
 - Left
 - Top

Go right and use the shovel on the X. Guybrush will dig up a T-shirt. Head
back to the village. Guybrush will see a ghostly ship sail off into the
distance. The lookout will come up behind him and tell him that the Governor
has been kidnapped by LeChuck. Tell him that you'll get a ship and a crew
together, and he'll tell you where they went and give you a note. Walk to the
left or to the right and head into the Scumm Bar.

Pick up the 3 mugs in the first half of the tavern, then grab the 2 beyond
the curtain. You can talk to the cook, or you can ignore him and go into the
kitchen. He's too busy mourning the loss of the Governor to stop you. Fill
one of your mugs with grog with the barrel and head out (you can grab the
meat on your way out, but you won't need it, so you probably shouldn't
bother).

Head back to the prison. As you walk, the grog you got from the barrel will
eat it's way through your mug. After your mug has reached 'near death' stage
(move your mouse over it every time its condition changes), use it on another
mug. Do this until you reach the prison, then use your grog on the lock. It
will melt, and you'll free the prisoner, who will tell you his name is Otis,
offer to do anything for you, refuse to save the Governor, then walk off.
Watch the cutscene, find out Fester's true identity, then head out of town.
Go visit the Sword Master again, and tell her the governor's been kidnapped.
Two crew members down, one to go. Visit the island in the upper-right corner of
the map, and use your rubber chicken on the cable. Walk to the house, open
the door, and go on in. Tell Chrome Dome that the Governor's been kidnapped,
and run the idea of getting a ship and crew together by him. He'll make you
touch the monstrosity that bit off his hands. Open the door, and do something
to it. Anything. Frightening, isn't it? Meathook will then join your crew.

Go back to the island map thingy, and from there to the lights. As soon as
you enter the shipyard, you'll be bombarded by Stan's sale offers. When he's
done, tell him you don't have much to spend, and he'll show you the ship of
your dreams: The Sea Monkey!

Well, you've just gotta have the ship, right? But you still don't have that
much to spend. So tell him you want it on credit, and he'll send you
scurrying to your old buddy, and the neighborhood credit supplier, the
shopkeeper. So tell Stan you'd rather go think about it some more, and go see
the shopkeeper.

The sign says "Ring bell for service." Ring the bell for service. The
storekeeper will show up, moan about idiots and the stupid bell, and get his
bum behind the counter. Tell him you're after a credit slip (claim to be
employed), and he'll go up to his safe to get one. Watch him, and write down
the combination. After he opens it and gets out the slip, pick any answer
choice, and he'll put it back. Worry not--we'll get that slip another way.
Ask him to go see the Sword Master, and open the safe. Guybrush will take the
credit note. That was easy, wasn't it? Thought so. Go back outside, and hike
on over Stan's.

As soon as Stan jumps on you to sell you something, ask to see the cheap ship
again, and offer him your credit slip. Ask to see the extras, but each time
he offers something, tell him you don't want it. When that's done, say you
don't want it after all, and as you're walking away, Stan will call you back.
Go back. Make an offer of 5000 pieces o' eight. He'll take it.
Congratulations. You gots yerself a ship. Go back to town.

When you get there, Stan will be waiting with the Sea Monkey. Short after,
you'll be joined by Otis. Tell him you thought you'd never see him again, and
say anything you want to Carla. After a bit of discussion...

When someone's path is blocked, you'll be taken to the fight screen. The
pirate you stop will say something, then Guybrush will be given a chance to
speak. Choose the challenging option ("My name is Guybrush Threepwood.
Prepare to die!") to initiate a fight.

The basic chart of a fight:

1. Guybrush throws an insult
   a. The pirate gives the correct response
   b. The pirate gives the wrong response

If a, d, e...
      2. The pirate throws an insult
         c. Guybrush gives the correct response
         d. Guybrush gives the wrong response

If b, c, f...
      3. Guybrush throws another insult
(e.) The pirate gives the correct response
(f.) The pirate gives the wrong response

You lose if...
   a. You've been insulted 3 times and you can no longer respond
   b. You've been insulted 2 times and the pirate gave the correct response
      to your insult 1 time
   c. You've been insulted 1 time and the pirate have the correct

The pirate loses if...
   a. You insulted him 3 times and he gave no response
   b. You insulted him 2 times and he gave the wrong response and you
      responded correctly to 1 insult
   c. You insulted him 1 time and he gave the wrong response and you

I = Insult
S = Sword Master's Insult
R = Response

I. This is the END for you, you gutter-crawling cur!
S. I've got a long, sharp lesson for you to learn today.
R. And I've got a little TIP for you. Get the POINT?

I. Soon you'll be wearing my sword like a shish kebab!
S. My tongue is sharper than any sword.
R. First you'd better stop waving it like a feather-duster.

I. My handkerchief will wipe up your blood!
S. My name is feared in every dirty corner of this island!
R. So you got that job as a janitor, after all.

I. People fall at my feet when they see me coming.
S. My wisest enemies run away at the first sight of me!
S. I usually see people like you passed out on tavern floors.
R. Even BEFORE they smell your breath?

I. I once owned a dog that was smarter than you.
S. Only once have I met such a coward!
R. He must have taught you everything you know.

I. You make me want to puke.
S. If your brother's like you, better to marry a pig.
R. You make me think somebody already has.

I. Nobody's ever drawn blood from me and nobody ever will.
S. No one will ever catch ME fighting as badly as you do.
R. You run THAT fast?

I. You fight like a dairy farmer.
S. I will milk every drop of blood from your body!
R. How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

I. I got this scar on my face during a mighty struggle!
S. My last fight ended with my hands covered with blood.
R. I hope now you've learned to stop picking your nose.

I. Have you stopped wearing diapers yet?
S. I hope you have a boat ready for a quick escape.
R. Why, did you want to borrow one?

I. I've heard you were a contemptible sneak.
S. My sword is famous all over the Caribbean!
R. Too bad no one's ever heard of YOU at all.

I. You're no match for my brains, you poor fool.
S. I've got the courage and skill of a master swordsman!
R. I'd be in real trouble if you ever used them.

I. You have the manners of a beggar.
S. Every word you say to me is stupid.
R. I wanted to make sure you'd feel comfortable with me.

I. I'm not going to take your insolence sitting down!
S. You are a pain in the backside, sir!
R. Your hemorrhoids are flaring up again, eh?

I. There are no words for how disgusting you are.
S. There are no clever moves that can help you now.
R. Yes there are. You just never learned them.

I. I've spoken with apes more polite than you.
S. Now I know what filth and stupidity really are.
R. I'm glad to hear you attended yoru family reunion.

Kill Guybrush:

In order to kill our valant hero, you'll have to leave him underwater after
the Sheriff chucks him in. In 10 minutes, Guybrush will run out of air
(turning pretty colors before doing so), and bye bye Guybrush. Worry not. You
can retry.

If you have found this document anywhere else or are at some other site that
foolishly forgot to remove the copyright information, contact the author.

Contact the author if:
   • You want to report an error. I'm not perfect, my computer isn't perfect,
and chances are, my proofreading isn't perfect. So if I did, said,
wrote, or anything else something wrong, do be kind enough to drop me
       a line about it.

   • You've seen this document anywhere other than the sites listed
above. This is the one surefire way to get on my good side...

   • You want to ask a question that IS NOT FOUND IN THE GUIDE.

   • You want to praise the author and/or offer tokens of high
monetary value. I have an Amazon wishlist, if you're interested...

   • You want to flame the author for absolutely no reason other than
the sick pleasure it gives you. So far, only one person has taken me
up on this offer. Where are the rest of you? I know you want to...

   • You found something that the author missed and you want to tell her
about it. This only works if It's in a part of the game covered by the
       guide.

   • You want to worship the author and build a shrine for her. (Hey, why
not? I might as well let people do this, since they seem to want to
anyway...What, you want to use me for a human sacrifice? AAAAAahhh!)

   • You want to make a suggestion that you feel will help make the author,
the world, and/or this guide a better person, place, and/or thing. I
probably won't take it, though...I don't think the same way the rest
       of you do.

   • Your pants are on fire and you want to borrow a fire extinguisher.

   • You're a really cool person who knows how to spell and speak relatively
decent English (or Russian or Spanish) and you want to be my friend.

   • You speak perfect English and perfect any-other-language and want to
translate this sucka for me. Perfection isn't really a requirement,
merely a preference. As long as you're fluent, I'm cool with it.

DO NOT Contact the author if:
   • You want to use this on your website. For now, I'm keeping this on a few
sites. When it gets bigger, I'll spread it around a bit. But for now,
       just a few.

   • You want to help the author with the guide. Yes, I appreciate the
thought, but unless I missed something major, like a boss battle or
something, I really don't need (or want) your assistance. It's
annoying to open your inbox and find 15 emails from people wanting to
help and 5 more with people who have already assumed their help is
wanted and have therefore sent poorly spaced and atrociously spelled
partial walkthroughs for parts of the game that are either covered
already or I haven't reached yet. When I'm ready to accept help from
the rest of you, I'll ask.

   • She has a headache. Stupid emails (and even moderately intelligent ones)
make headaches worse, which leads to mean emails and flaming. Don't do
it. It's a big, big, no no. And remember, the mood is posted up there,
so you might want to check it before emailing me. I generally keep the
same mood for a few days, unless something extreme happens, but if it
does, chances are, I won't be checking my email, anyway.

   • You have nothing intelligent to say. "I finished the game before you.
Nyah." is not intelligent, and I'll have to delete it. Sorry.

If you have reason to contact me for anything other than those circumstances
stated on the allowed list, your email will be read, laughed at, and deleted.
Or maybe just deleted. The same actions will be taken if you ask a question
that is answered within the guide. And don't be surprised if I don't reply to
you immediately. I get lots of email every day, and I try to answer all of
it, but things sometimes get out of hand.

If you contact me with something from the no-no list, I'll probably reply and
call you a dirty name that you won't want to repeat to the younguns (Lord of
the Flies!), then be generally surly and mean to you until I forget about
your entire existence. Then I'll just treat you like everyone else, until you
make me mad again. So try not to do that.

After you've learnt your tasks, say "I'll just be running along now.",
and walk up to the fire place, after a short while, the chef should come
out of the door to your right, wait until he has gone off-screen to the
left, and walk into the kitchen.

When you're in there, pick up the pot under the table, the hunk of meat
on the table, and open the door to the right, to go on the pier at the
back of the bar. As soon as you open the door, a seagull will fly over
and start pecking at the fish lying there, walk down to the bottom right
hand corner of the mini-pier, and you'll stand on a loose board, which
will partially catapult the seagull into the air, do this until the bird
stays in the air(usually takes 3 times), and pick up the fish, walk out
of the kitchen, and out of the bar.

After a short cut-scene involving the ghost pirate LeChuck, and one of
his henchmen, you'll be back in control, walk right again through the
arch.
When you are back in control, open the first door on the right, and
enter the house. In here, search around until you find a chicken (located
on the trunk), after some further inspection, you'll find out it's a
rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle. then walk right to find the
famous Voodoo Lady, she's not an important character, but talk to her if
you wish, after your conversation with her, exit the house, then go
through the next arch.

Open the first door you come to, and walk into the shop, talk to the
shopkeeper, and tell him "I'm looking for the Sword Master of Melee
island.", it turns out he is the only person that knows of her
whereabouts, after the conversation is done, follow him. You must be
quick, and try not to lose site of him, follow him through the town, and
through the woods, if you're fast enough, try and pick up one of the
yellow flowers, after a little game of cat and mouse, he'll lead you to
the Sword Masters hideout.
From here, another cut-scene will take place, when it's done, walk back
to the path, if you didn't get one of the yellow flowers the first time,
go back to the fork on the map, and take the middle path going north,
and pick one.

Make your way back to the map, and head for the clearing, enter the
Circus Tent. You get to meet the Fantastic, Amazing, Acrobatic, and
exceedingly well known, Fabulous Flying Fettuccini Brothers!
When you can reply, say "OK, I'll do it." when they ask about a helmet,
say "Of course I have a helmet. What sort of idiot do you take me for?",
Then give them the pot you got from the kitchen.
When they ask if you're ok, pick either answer, and you'll end up with
478 pieces of eight!

Walk back to the town, and go through the first arch, talk to the
Citizen of Melee, when he asks you if you have a cousin named Sven, say
"No, but I once had a barber named Dominique.", He'll ask you if you
want to buy a map to the treasure, say "I'll take it. It'll make a swell
gift.", you lose 100 pieces of eight, but end up with a *very* hard to
understand map. Now walk through the next archway, and in to the
store(first door). In here, pick up the sword and the shovel, and talk
to the storekeeper. say "About this sword/shovel", then say "I want it."
to buy the items, and walk out of the store.

From here, go into the alley next to the store, and you'll meet the
lovable(?) Sherriff Fester Shinetop, say whatever you want, as it won't
make too much difference, when you're done with him, walk out of the
alley, and into the Jail.
In here, talk to the prisoner, you'll find out he has horrible breath,
so walk back to the store, and say to the storekeeper "I could use a
breath mint.", he'll give you a full roll for 1 piece of eight. Go back
to the Jail, and give the breath mints to the prisoner so you can talk
to him. After your conversation, leave Otis.

***NOTE***
The order you do the trials in will slightly effect the game,if you steal
the idol last, you'll miss out on a scene with Guybrush and Elain Marley,
so I advise you to steal the idol first, or second.

Mastering the Art of Sword Fighting
 -----------------------------------

Head back to the map screen, from here, click on the house in the bottom
right corner, when you get stopped at the bridge, give the fish to the
troll, and continue to the house. Once there, open the door, ask the man
"Could you train me to be better than the Sword Master?", then keep
saying "I do so have what it takes!" until he agrees, after that say
"I've got 30 pieces of eight.", then "OK, check it out.", When you're in
the training room, and get a chance to talk, pick any answer, as it
won't make a difference.

Once you're done with the training, walk back to the map, and stand
somewhere so that other pirates will walk into you, so you can learn
some insults(go to section 5 for more info), when you have the chance
say "My name is Guybrush Threepwood, prepare to die." to get into the
actual sword fight, from here, choose which insult you want to use, and
let the sword fight play through.
When a pirate says "Wow! You're good enough to fight the Sword Master."
head up to the Sword Master's house, Talk to her and say "My name is
Guybrush Threepwood. I've come to kill you." to fight her(for help with
her insults, check section 5 again). Once you beat her, head back to the
path.

 -----------------------------
 Mastering the Art of Thievery
 -----------------------------

Go back to where the jail is, and go through the arch next to it,
then walk to the Governor's Mansion.
Use the Yellow Petal on the Hunk of Meat, to make a drug for the dogs,
then use it on the dogs themselves. After they've fallen asleep, open
the front door, and enter.

Once your in the house, open the door near you and enter, now our
"friend" Fester Shinetop will make an appearance.
There's nothing you really need a guide for in this section, but here
goes.....Hypnotize the quarrelsome rhinoceros, Push the red button, Look
at the tremendous yak, Push the tremendous dangerous-looking yak, Pull
the tremendous dangerous-looking yak, Pick up the staple remover, Use
the staple remover on the tremendous dangerous-looking yak, you'll be
thrown out, and you can just watch the rest of it.

When you regain control, head back to the jail, and give the gopher
repellent to Otis, he'll give you his Carrot Cake, open the Cake, and
you'll find a file, now trek back to the mansion. When you eventually
get there, walk in to the gaping hole, the computer will handle it from
here. When you get a chance to reply to the sheriff, choose any answer,
and Elain Marley will come out, choose whichever answer you like,
and this trial is almost complete.
To get out of the water, simply pick up the idol.

 -------------------------------------
Mastering the Art of Treasure Huntery
 -------------------------------------

Go back to the forest, and take the middle top path, left, right left,
right, top middle, right, left, top middle.
Now if you followed those properly, you should be in a different part of
the forest, which is covered in red flowers, walk right until you see
the big X, and use the shovel on it, Guybrush will do the rest by
himself, when he's done, go back to the map screen.

Now when you've completed all three trials, you'll be greeted with a
cut-scene, showing the ghost ship sailing away. Shortly, the Look-out
will come to talk to you, and give you a note. When the look out walks
off, look at the note to read it. Then head to the Scumm bar, pick up
all the mugs you can find, and talk to the chef. When you're done with
him, walk into the kitchen and _SAVE YOUR GAME_, you're going to need to
fill up one mug with grog, but switch it regularly, so it doesn't melt,
you'll be heading for the jail, where you met Otis. When you get there,
use whatever mug that has the grog in on the lock, to eat through it and
set Otis free. Exit the jail, and a cut-scene will play.

Now head back to the Sword Master's shack, and go up and talk to her,
choose the reply "The governors been KIDNAPPED!", she'll be a member of
your crew now. Only one more crew member to get, so head back to the map
screen, and to the shore on the top right corner.

When you get there, Walk to the pole, and use the chicken on the cable.
Then open the door of the house, and walk in, choose the obvious answers
when Meathook talks to you, eventually he'll lead you to his "monster".
Open the door, and tickle the murderous winged devil. After you get out
of the house, climb up the pole again, use the chicken on the cable, and
walk back to the map.

Walk to the lights in the shape of a boat, and you'll arrive at Smilin'
Stans Previously Owned Vessels.

When you're able to speak, choose "I really don't have that much to
spend.", then "Actually, I was hoping to get one on credit.", and "On
second thought, this may not be the ship for me.", then finally,
"Actually, I'd like to go think about it some more.".

Head back to the village, and to the store. Talk to the keeper, and say
"I'm interested in procuring a note of credit.", when he asks about a
job say "Yes, of course I do.". Now when he walks up to the safe, pay
very good attention to the direction he moves the handle in(or write it
down). Choose any of the answers when he asks you what your job is, it
won't make any difference, then say "I'm looking for the Sword Master of
melee island.", After he's gone, walk up to the safe, and move the
handle in exactly the same way the storekeeper did. Push brings the
handle right, Pull moves it left. When you get the note, head back to
Stan's.

Say to Stan "Uh... could I see that cheap one again?", then "I got
credit from the storekeeper. Will you take it?", and "Let's talk
extras.", say "I think I can live without that particular piece of
junk." to all of the things, until he starts repeating himself, then say
"Enough about extras, already.", now say "Forget it. I don't need this
boat anyway.", then "Well, maybe you're right...", then say "I'd like to
make you an offer.", choose "5000! And that's my FINAL final offer!",
Now walk back to the village.

When Otis shows up, say "Otis! I thought I'd never see you again!", then
any answer to the Sword Master.

Then we're done with the first part.

 ====================
 Part 2 - The Journey
 ====================

Unfortunately, the bastards you chose to be on your crew, want to
sunbathe instead of helping you, ah well, screw 'em!

When you regain control of Guybrush, pick up the feather pen, and the
ink, then walk out of the cabin. When you're on deck, climb up the rope
ladder, pick up the Jolly Roger(flag), and climb back down again, then
head for the hatch. Go down through the next hatch, pick up the Giant
piece of rope, then open the kegs on the left side of the screen, open
the chest on the bottom right hand corner, and look in it to get the
wine, then head back up the ladder, and walk through the door.

In the kitchen, pick up the pot on the table, and open the cupboard,
then pick up the cereal. Open the cereal, then open the prize, now walk
back to the cabin you started in. Use the small key in the cabinet, and
pick up the chest you find. Open it, then look at it to get the
contents. Now open the drawer of the desk, and look in that.
Now look at the dusty book, then head for the kitchen. We're going to
make a little something for dinner now, so look at the piece of paper
for the ingredients. Put the following in the cooking pot:
Cinnamon sticks, Gun Powder, Jolly Roger, Cereal, The Rubber Chicken,
The Breath Mints, The Ink, and the Wine you found in the kitchen.

Watch the short cut-scene that takes place, and when Guybrush is lying
on the floor, spouting nonsense, click anywhere to make him stand up.
Climb up the ladder, and go down through the hatch to the cellar, pick
up some more Gun Powder, and walk back up to the deck.
Use the giant piece of rope on the cannon, the gun powder in the cannon
nozzle, and head back to the kitchen. Use either the feather, or the
dusty book with the fire, and quickly run back up to deck.
Use the flaming mass on the fuse, and then use the pot. And we're
finished with the very short Part 2.

 ============================
Part 3 - Under Monkey Island
 ============================

This chapter begins with young Threepwood's head under the sand... and
his ass of fire(I told him to stay off that curry). Anyway, after Herman
Toothrot(great name!) has left, click anywhere on the sand to get out,
look at the note on the tree next to you, and pick up the banana on the
ground, then walk into the jungle.

From here, head left, and go to the fort on the old volcano.
Once you reach it, pick up the spyglass, the rope, and push the cannon.
If Herman Toothrot interrupts you, say anything to him, and pick up the
gunpowder when you get the chance, then head back down to the section of
the map you started in.

Go up on the map, and go to the river fork. Pick up the note under the
rock, and use the gunpowder with the dam. Open the spyglass, then use
the lens you get, on the sun, to blow the damn dam. Head to the freshly
created pond, pick up the rope you find on the dead guy, and the note
alongside him. Herman will most likely show up, say anything to him,
then head back to the map, and go to the bottom of it, then head to the
crack.

Use the rope with the tree, and the other rope with the sturdy stump.
Pick up the oars, then head back to the jungle. Go to the top of the
map, then back to the river fork.

Walk up the footholds, push the primitive art twice, then head up the
next set of footholds. Now push the rock sitting on the cliff edge, and,
if everything's gone to plan, the rock will hit the banana tree on the
beach. Then head back to the beach you started on, and pick up the nice
fresh pile of bananas, then use the oars you found, on the small
rowboat. Head in a right-up direction, then go past the bit of island
that's sticking out, go up on the map again, and click on the beach near
to you.

Pick up the note if you want, and walk into the jungle again, then go to
the village. Walk left, and pick up the bananas, then walk right again,
to be confronted by the Cannibals of Monkey Island!
Choose any of the replies, you'll get thrown into prison anyway.
Pick up the skull, the memo, and the loose board, then click on the
loose board again to get out.

Go back to your boat, and row to the beach you originally started on.
Walk to the jungle, then click on the monkey.
Give all the bananas you have(should be 5 of them) to the monkey, and he
should follow you, now go back to the jungle, click up on the map, then
left, now go to the clearing.

Walk along right until you find a wooden totem pole, and pull it's nose,
try and walk away from it..... unfortunately it'll close, but your
monkey will climb up there and hold it down for you. Walk through the
gate, pick up the wimpy little idol, then go back to the map, and back
to where you left the boat, now go to the cannibal village.

Walk left and try to open the door, then walk right again to be stopped
by the cannibals, say "Don't eat me! I'll give you anything!", then give
them the wimpy little idol. Walk into the hut they held you captive in,
pick up the banana picker, and walk out again, now give the banana
picker to Herman Toothrot. Go back to the monkey head(where you got the
little idol), and use the big ass Q-tip on the monkey ear, now the
monkey head will open it's mouth, and roll out it's tongue, walk in,
then walk out again. Run back to the cannibals, and say "Well actually,
there is something...", "I'm looking for somebody.", then "I'm looking
for 30 dead guys and one woman."(sounds like one helluva fetish-orgy to
me!), and choose any answers from now on. When they turn their backs,
give them the leaflet you got from Stan. Now once you get the dried up
head(nice!) head back to the monkey head(agaaain). Whip out yer
head(that's the navigators) and follow his nose to the ship.

When you get there, talk to the head, and say:
"May I please have that necklace?", "Maybe I'll just take it...", "I
don't want to have to hurt you...", "What're you going to do? Bite me?",
"If I wanted to I could dropkick you into the lava."

Then use the necklace, and walk onto the ship.
Walk through the door on the left, into LeChuck's cabin, use the
magnetic compass you got from Stan, on the key, then walk back to the
deck. Go through the hatch on the right side, and through the passage on
the opposite side.
In here, pick up the ghost feather on the floor(next to the chickens),
walk back through the passage, and use the ghost feather, on the
sleeping ghost pirate twice, pick up the jug o' grog, and go back
through the passage again, then use the key from LeChuck's room, on the
hatch.

Pick up the cooking grease in here, and go back to the deck. Use the
grease on the door, and walk through. Get the ghost tools, and head back
down to where the chickens and pigs are. Use the ghost tools on the
crate, and look in it to get the root. Now make your way back to the
cannibal village. After they give you the special potion, walk out of
the village. Choose any replies to the following conversation,
eventually you'll head back to Melee Island, which leads us too..

 ==============================================
Last Part (A.K.A Part 4) - Guybrush kicks butt
 ==============================================

Walk to the right, and you'll be stopped by a ghost guard, choose any
answer, it'll all end up the same anyway. Walk right again, and use the
magic seltzer bottle with any ghosts you encounter, until you reach the
church. When you get a chance to speak, say anything, your replies won't
really make much difference in this chapter. After you eventually
land(in Smilin' Stan's) after being punched repeatedly by LeChuck,
QUICKLY pick up the root beer, and use it on LeChuck.
Now sit back, and enjoy the ending sequence.

 ===============================
 3 - Changes/Secrets in the game
 ===============================

Drown Guybrush:
When the Sheriff throws you in the water(after getting the idol), stay
down there for 10 minutes, and you'll drown.
*This doesn't always work, I've tried it in 3 different versions, and it
only seemed to work in 1*

Slightly different ending scene:
In Part 3, pull the catapult(primitive art) twice, then push a rock off
the cliff, it should hit your own ship. Now at the end of Part 3, you'll
leave the island with Herman Toothrot, on his ship.

Different Doors:
Escape from the hut in the cannibal village, then get re-caught, keep
doing this and they'll change the door.

Shopkeeper:
If you keep walking out of the shop in Melee Island with a shovel or sword
after telling the Shopkeeper to look for the the Sword Master, he'll
catch you and say about 10 different things.

*Thanks to Mr. Jones for e-mailing me this!*

Solution #2 for Secret of Monkey Island, The

This FAQ/Walkthrough for Monkey Island, possibly the greatest PC game of all
time,
should ONLY be used if you are stuck, or if you just want to finish the game
fast.
So, if you can't wait and you can't beat the game by yourself, then here
is the
walkthrough:
            _ _ _ ___ ___ _ ___ _ _ _ ___ _ _ _
           |_||_||_| |   /|   o   | |_||_   | |_||_||_ |_   | |_|||_|| |_
           |  | || \ |   _|_  o   | | ||_   | | || \|_ |_   | | \|| ||_ _|

Talk to the lookout at the Lookout Point, then continue down the cliffside.
Walk
right
across the Main Pier, and enter the first door. This is the Scumm Bar. Walk to
the
right and talk to the Important Looking Pirates. They will discuss with you how
you
can become an official pirate. You have to steal the idol, beat the
swordmaster,
and
find the treasure. Hmm, this seems like quite an adventure laid out in front of
you,
but with this guide, you will be able to get through it. Sit and wait for the
cook
to come out of the kitchen, and rush in. Grab the pot and the meat, then go
outside.
Hit the plank with the bird on it many times, and grab the fish. Leave the
Scumm
Bar,
and go to the left, back up the cliff face.

Continue past the lookout point, and onto the main map. Go to the small pink
light in
the center of the map, and go into the circus tent. Interrupt the Fetuchini
Brothers,
and agree to be shot out of a cannon. Show them your newly-found pot, and
they'll
accept it as a helmet. After you get fired out of the cannon, you will be
awarded a
lot of money. Take the money and go back to in front of the Scumm Bar. Walk to
the
right, and into the first main part of town. Talk to the pirates on the far
left
side
of the screen. Talk about the minutes, and tell them that if they give you a
piece of
eight, they will give you the minutes. Then, walk under the clock archway.

Enter the first door you can, and go inside. Pick up the sword and the shovel,
and
talk to the shopkeeper. Ask him if you can buy both of them, which you will,
and
then
leave the store. Walk left, avoiding the alley, go past the church, and into
the
Jail.
Talk to the prisoner (Otis), and he will introduce himself. After the
conversation,
return to the small part of town (W/ the clocktower). Talk to the man standing
there
with a bird on his shoulder, and buy a map from him. Now, enter the door
closest
to
him on the left. Pick up the Chicken with a Pulley, and exit. Now, return to the
map
(where guybrush is three pixelated dots). Walk to the bottom right corner,
beside
Stan's Used Ship Emporium. On the way you will cross a bridge with a troll.
Give him
the red fish you got at the Scumm Bar, and continue on your way.

Once you arrive at the house, walk up to the door. Knock on it (open it), and a
man
will step outside. He is the sword instructor guy. Convince him that you ARE
man
enough to be trained with the sword, and that you really want to. He will take
you
inside, and start you out with a few basic insults. Now, when you return to the
Main
Map, you will find lots of pirates walking around. If you stop in front of one,
then
you will get into a swordfight. Do this a lot, so you learn new insults. Here
is a
simple list I threw together of the insults that you can learn:

INSULT: This is the END for you, you gutter-crawling cur!
COMEBACK: And I've got a little TIP for you, get the POINT?

INSULT: My hankerchief will wipe up your blood!
COMEBACK: So you got that job as a janitor, after all.

INSULT: People fall at my feet when they see me coming.
COMEBACK: Even BEFORE they smell your breath?

INSULT: Soon you'll be wearing my sword like a shish kebab!
COMEBACK: First you'd better stop waiving it like a feather-duster.

INSULT: I once owned a dog that was smarter than you.
COMEBACK: He must have taught you everything you know.

INSULT: You make me want to puke.
COMEBACK: You make me think somebody already did.

INSULT: You fight like a dairy farmer!
COMEBACK: How appropriate, you fight like a cow!

INSULT: Nobody's ever drawn blood from me and nobody ever will!
COMEBACK: You run THAT fast?

INSULT: Have you stopped wearing diapers yet?
COMEBACK: Why, did you want to borrow one?

INSULT: I've heard you were a contemptible sneak.
COMEBACK: Too bad no one's ever heard of YOU at all.

INSULT: I got this scar on my face during a mighty struggle!
COMEBACK: I hope you've learned to stop picking your nose.

INSULT: You're no match for my brains, you fool.
COMEBACK: I'd be in real trouble if you ever used them.

INSULT: You have the manners of a beggar.
COMEBACK: I wanted to make sure you'd feel comfortable with me.

INSULT: I'm not going to take your insolence sitting down!
COMEBACK: Your hemorrhoids are flaring up again, eh?

INSULT: I've spoken with apes more polite then you!
COMEBACK: I'm glad to hear you attended your family reunion.

Try to battle as many pirates as you can, and to learn every one of those
insults
and comebacks in the list above. When you feel that your ready, and the people
tell you that "you should fight the swordmaster," then you shall do just that.
Return to town, and go back to the shopkeeper. Talk to him, and ask him to see
the swordmaster. When he leaves, follow him very closely. Eventually, you will
arrive at the swordmaster's house. Once the shopkeeper is rejected, then go up
and talk to her. Ask to fight her, and she will consider. Here is a list of
the insults you should use on the swordmaster:

INSULT: My tongue is sharper than any sword.
COMEBACK: First you better stop waving it like a feather-duster.

INSULT: I've got a long, sharp lesson for you to learn today.
COMEBACK: And I've got a little TIP for you. Get the POINT?

INSULT: My name is feared in every dirty corner of this island!
COMEBACK: So, you got that job as a janitor after all.

INSULT: My wisest enemies run away at the first sight ofme!
COMEBACK: Even BEFORE they smell your breath?

INSULT: Only once have I met such a coward!
COMEBACK: He must have taught you everything you know.

INSULT: If your brother's like you, better to marry a pig.
COMEBACK: You make me think somebody already has.

INSULT: No one will ever catch ME fighting as badly as you do.
COMEBACK: You run THAT fast?

INSULT: My last fight ended with my hands covered with blood.
COMEBACK: I hope now you've learned to stop picking your nose.

INSULT: I will milk every drop of blood from your body!
COMEBACK: How appropriate, you fight like a cow.

INSULT: I hope you have a boat ready for a quick escape.
COMEBACK: Why, did you want to borrow one?

INSULT: My sword is famous all over the Caribbean!
COMEBACK: Too bad no one's ever heard of YOU at all.

INSULT: I've got the courage and skill of a master swordsman!
COMEBACK: I'd be in real trouble if you ever used them.

INSULT: Every word you say to me is stupid.
COMEBACK: I wanted to make sure you'd feel comfortable with me.

INSULT: You are a pain in the backside, sir!
COMEBACK: Your hemorrhoids are flaring up again, eh?

INSULT: There are no clever moves that can help you now.
COMEBACK: Yes there are, you just never learned them.

INSULT: Now I know what filth and stupidity really are.
COMEBACK: I'm glad to hear you attended your family reunion.

INSULT: I usually see people like you passed-out on tavern floors.
COMEBACK: Even BEFORE they smell your breath?

After you beat the swordmaster, and I have no doubt that you will, you will
receive
a complimentary T-Shirt (oh boy!) as proof of your victory. Take everything you
have, and return back to the main map (where you are three pixels big). Now,
head
back to the fork where you first started into the woods with the Shopkeeper. Go
through the left path and pick up a yellow flower. Combine it with the meat you
got in the beginning, and take it all back to the main part of town (the one
with
the church and the store in it. Keep going to the left and up to the Governor's
Mansion. Feed the meat to the poodles to make them go to sleep, then enter the
doorway (yup, it's unlocked).

Pick up the vase from the table, and go through the glass doors beside it. The
Sheriff of the town will come by and beat you up in the back, and eventually you
will come out with a lot of useful items. You should have some gopher spray, so
take that back to the main part of town.

Go into the Shop and ask the guy for some Breath Mints (If Otis told you to get
some; If he didn't, go talk to him again and tell him his breath smells oddly).
Take the "Grog-o-mints" back to Otis, and give them to him. Now, give him the
Gopher Spray, and he should give you a carrot cake in return. "Use" (Eat) the
Carrot Cake and a File will be revealed. Go back to the governors' mansion, and
through the front door, go through the gaping hole in the wall, and you will
unlock the case with the precious Idol in it. Take it, and you have mastered
the art of thevery. Now, try to leave, and the Sheriff will through you off the
Pier. Pick up the idol, and climb out of the pier via the ladder. Now, return
back to the main map to search for treasure.

This part can be a bit confusing, and there's not much I can tell you about it.
Go
back to the main map, and into the fork. Now, since there is sort of a "random-
izer," there is not much I can tell you. Simply save your game NOW, and enter
the
woods. Wander around until you come upon a clearing you have yet to discover.
Walk to the right, and use the shovel you got earlier on the big X. This will
slowly reveal another T-Shirt. Take your three prizes back into town.

Walk into the Scumm Bar, and you should see a lot of empty grog mugs. Pick them
all up (naturally), and walk over to the right. Talk to the Chef, and he will
brief you on the whole situation; the Governor has been KIDNAPPED! And it's up
to you to rescue her (of course). Pick up the rest of the grog mugs and go
right
into the kitchen. Use one of the mugs on the grog barrel in the corner, and
make
your way back to Otis (Note: when the grog mug starts melting, transfer the grog
into a fresh new one - you should make it on time). Give him the drink, and you
should spill it on the lock. Whalla! He's out. Now, he'll join your pirate
crew
to go and save the Governor.

Go back to the swordmaster's house, and talk to her. Convince her that the
Governor
has been kidnapped, and she will join your crew as well. Now, you need one last
person to join. Go back to the main map, and into the dot of light in the
upper-
right hand corner. Use the Chicken with a Pulley on the cable wire, and go into
the house. Talk to MeatHook, and you will find out a bunch of interesting
stuff.
Keep talking until you have to prove you are brave enough to be the captain. He
will ask you to "touch the beast that took off his hand," and you shall do just
that.
He will lead you to the door(s) with the "beast" in it, and when it turns out to
be a parrot, all you have to do is touch it. This will prove you can Captain a
ship,
but you don't have a ship - what now?

Head back to the main map, and into the circus of lights towards the bottom
(that
looks kind of like a roller coaster). Walk inside, and Stan the Salesmen will
first
make his debut. Introduce yourself, say you are interested in a cheap ship. He
should lead you to the one in the far back. When he asks how much you want to
pay
for it, say that money is no option. Then talk about extras. When he talks
about
an extra, say "I can do without that." That should lower the price. Don't
forget
to mention that you want to pay with credit. Then, leave, and visit the store-
keeper. Tell him to go back to the Swordmaster's house. While he's gone, go up
to the safe in the back, and perform the following operations: Pull, Pull, Pull,
Push, Push, Pull, Push, Push. This will open it. Take the note inside back to
Stan. When you come back, do everything you can to convince him that 5000
Pieces
of Eight will be ample money to pay for the ship in the back, and give him the
store credit. Now, go back to the dock, and you will sail to the next part...

                _ _ _ ___ ___ ___ _ __ _ _ _
               |_||_||_| |    __|  o   | |_||_     || || ||_||\||_ \ /
               |  | || \ |   /__   o   | | ||_   __||_||_|| \| \|_  |

You will start out on your new ship with your new "crew." Actually, your "crew"
actually does nothing. Anyway, it will start you out in the Captain's room.
Pick
up the Ink and the Feather from the desk, and then open the drawer on the left
side. Pick up the dusty book, and leave the room. Once on the deck, go up the
small rope ladder (on the mast), and pick up the Jolly Roger. Now, go back
down,
and into the open hatch on the deck. Go down the square hatch in the ground,
and
pick up the rope on the bottom right corner of the screen. Then, open one of
the
barrels on the left side of the screen. Now, open the only chest that is
unlocked
and take the fine wine from inside. Go back up one of the ladders.

Go into the room you haven't been into yet (the kitchen), and then open the
cupboard on the left hand side of the screen. Take the cereal, and open it.
Open
the prize that comes out, and go back to the captains room. Use the prize (key)
on the locked cabinet on the right side. Take out the chest, and open it on the
ground to reveal the recipe. Go back down to the kitchen, and pick up the pot
on
the counter. Put the following things in the pot:

    The Minutes
    The Note
    Stan's Business Card
    The Feather Pen
    The Box of Cereal
    The Piece of Paper
    The Ink
    The Jolly Roger
    The Fine Wine
    The Grog-o-Mints (Breath Mints)
    Both T-Shirts
    The Staple Remover
    The Chicken with a Pulley
    The Small Key
    Dusty Book
    Cinnamon Sticks
    Gunpowder

MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE GUNPOWDER IN LAST. It is the crucial ingredient is the
gunpowder. This results in a massive voodoo explosion, which delays life for
quite a while. You will wake up to see (drum roll), Monkey Island! To get on
the actual island can be quite a task. You must first get some more gunpowder
from the Keg down both the hatches, and then look at your treasure map. Use
the map in the fire below the pot, and go back out on deck. Stuff some
gunpowder in the nozzle of the cannon, and use the rope on the back of it as
a fuse. Quickly, use the blazing fire on the fuse, and use the pot you found
earlier. You will be shot onto Monkey Island, and the next part ...

 _ _ _ ___ _ _ _ _ _ _ ___ _ _ _
|_||_||_| |   _|  o  | ||\|| \|_ |_|  |\/|| ||\||_/|_ \ /   | |_ |  |_||\|| \
|  | || \ |   _|  o  |_|| \|_/|_ | \  |  ||_|| \| \|_  |   _|_ _||_ | || \|_/

The cannon will shoot you right on to the south beach, where you will first
discover Herman Toothrot, and a banana buried in the sand. Pick up the banana,
and head forth into the jungle. Go north a screen (click on the top), and go
to the River Fork (it's basically a big pile of rocks). Pick up the flint and
the note, then go up the engraved-in-the-side-of-the-cliff ladder. Pull the
small structure until it faces towards you (as in, the front of the computer
screen). Now, climb up the ladder. Push the rock next to the edge of the
cliff off of the side, and return back down to the south beach. Pick up the
bananas the boulder knocked off, and go back into the jungle.

This time, walk to the west screen, and onto the only place where you can go,
the clearing where Herman lives. Push the cannon forward, and grab the gun-
powder. Pick up the other items: the spyglass, the rope and the cannonball,
then leave and go back to the river fork. On the dam right in front of you,
put some gunpowder on some of the rocks. Then, use the flint with the cannon-
ball, and it will blow up. Now, go to the lake that it fills. Grab the rope
from the dead guy, and head back to the south beach.

On your way, stop at the big crack in the earth. Use the two ropes you have
to reach the bottom (attach them to the tree branches). Grab the oars, and
go back to the south beach. Use the oars in the rowboat, and sail into the
water. The boat can give you access to the northern part of the island -
which is key to winning the game. So go to the northern part of the island,
and land your boat on the beach there. Go into the little village thing on
the top part of the island, and walk to the left. Pick up the bananas from
the bowl of fruit, and leave. On your way, you will be stopped by the cann-
ibals. Don't worry, the cannibals won't eat you, but they will lock you
away. Once you are in their "jail," simply pick up the lone skull off the
ground, and pick up the loose plank. Now, with 5 or 6 bananas on hand, go
back to the southern part of the island, and onto the south beach.

Leave the beach, and travel just a little bit northward (to the monkey).
Give the monkey all of your bananas, and he will follow you around and do
what you do for an unlimited amount of time. Leave the site, and travel
North-East, past the beach, and onto the smaller, tree-covered mountain.
Go into the clearing atop that. Walk right, and when you see a totem pole
next to a gate, pull the long nose just above you on the right side. Try
to walk through the gate, and the monkey will hold down the nose. Now,
you can access the giant monkey head, but you can't do that just yet.
Walk up to the giant monkey head, and pick up the small idol off of the
ground. Take it back to the cannibals, and when they threaten to throw you
back in jail, give them the idol (say "I'll give you anything").

With them in order, head back to the jail cell where you were once kept,
and grab the big two-armed banana picker. Take it outside, and you will
see Herman Toothrot. Give him back his banana picker, and he will give you
a humungous Q-Tip. Take the Q-Tip back to the giant monkey head, and use
it in his right ear. He will roll out his tongue resembling a red carpet
to let you enter. Go inside, then go back out (don't ask, just do). Go
all the way back to the cannibals. And say that you are searching for 30
dead guys and a girl. Talk to them about the head of the navigator, and
when they look away, give them the leaflet (the smallest pamphlet you have).
They will give you the head of the navigator, so head back into the monkey
head ...

Once inside, use the head of the navigator to navigate through the tunnels.
Every once in a while, stop, and his head will spin. The way it points
after that is the way you should go. Follow him until you reach LeChuck's
hideout in the catacombs. Try to use the neckless, and then talk to the
head. Beg him repeatidly to use the eyeball neckless, and he will sometime
give in. Use the eyeball neckless and walk on to the ship. Make sure you
still have Stan's compass, though. Go into the door on your left, and
walk up to the key on the wall. Use the magnetic compass on the key and
it will be yours. Now, head back out.

Go onto the right side of the deck, and down the hatch. Ignore the sleeping
crewsman, and head through the door on your right. Pick up the chicken
feather off the ground (next to one of the chickens, of course). Take it
back to the sleeping dude, and use it on his feet. After a while, he will
drop his mug of grog. Take the mug of grog back through the door on the
right. Use the key on the other hatch to open it, then go down into the
deepest part of the ship. Use the rum on the rats' dish, and he will fall
over. Pick up the grease from the far back corner, and head back to the
main deck. Use the grease on the door you haven't yet been in, and go
inside. Pick up the tools next to the fallen guard. Take them back down
to where the animals are, and use them on the glowing crate. Take the
root from inside, and exit the ship. If it doesn't automatically do it
for you, try to leave the catacombs.

When the cutscene is finished, you will be back at the place where LeChuck's
ship used to be. Talk to his first mate, and he will tell you that he and
Governor Marley are to be married! Your crew will shortly arrive, and you
will head back to the dreaded Melée Island. Get ready, this is the last
part ...

 _ _ _ ___ __ _ _ _ _ _ _ ______
|_||_||_| |  |_|  o  | _ | |\ /|_||_|| ||_ |_|  |_/||  |_/|_   |_|| | |  |
|  | || \ |    |  o  |__||_| | |_|| \|_| _|| |  | \||_ | \ _|  |_||_| |  |

It will start you back on the dock, with one of LeChuck's skeletal horde.
Talk to him, and say the bottom saying, so you will kill him off with the
root beer. Go back into town, killing zombies on your way, until you reach
the church in the main part of town. Go inside, and interrupt the ceremony.
Talk to LeChuck, and when Elaine drops down, the two monkeys in the dress
will be unveiled. After a short while, LeChuck will punch the taste out of
your mouth, and he will do so all over the island. When you land in Stan's
used ship emporium, then pick up the bottle of root beer off the ground,
and use it on poor old LeChuck. Congratulations! You beat Monkey Island!

Solution #3 for Secret of Monkey Island, The

1 - The three trials
--------------------
Walk down from the old man and look at the poster. Go into Scumm bar and
walk up to the important looking pirates. Talk to the three pirates. Say
you want to be a pirate and keep talking until they tell you about the
three trials. When they've finished talking wait until the cook leaves
the kitchen and when he's out of sight open the door and go into the
kitchen. Get the meat. Put it in the pot. Take the stewed meat and the
pot and go on to the jetty. Walk to the end of the jetty and step on the
plank that makes the gull fly. Keep stepping on the plank until you can
get the fish. Go to the right until you get back to the dock and then
get back to the look-out point. Talk to the look-out then go up the path
through the clearing and go into the circus which is towards the top of
the screen. Talk to the Fetuccini brothers who offer you money to do a
stunt. When they ask you if you have a safety helmet say yes and give
them the pot as a helmet. When you're fired go back down to the dock and
walk to the left until you come to the main street and the citizen of
Melee Island. Buy the map from him and when he talks to you about Sven
tell him you know someone called Dominique. Talk to the pirates and go
inside the voodoo shop. Talk to the voodoo priestess. Open the trunk and
take the rubber chicken. Walk to the right and something about your
future is told. Leave the voodoo shop and go to the ship at the top of
the screen. Buy the sword and the shovel Talk to the shopkeeper and buy
the goods which should include some mints. Walk out of the shop and go
into the alley. Insult the sheriff and then go to the jail. Talk to the
prisoner. Give him the mints and then talk to him again. Leave the jail
and go to the house on the bottom right-hand side of the map. When you
meet the troll ask about the toll and give him the fish. At the house
read the sign and knock on the door. Say you've got what it takes and
pay the sword teacher 30 pieces of eight. When your training is over go
to the crossroads and wait for pirates to come along. Learn the insults
and use them on other pirates in order to learn the retorts. When
Guybrush has learnt enough insults and retorts a pirate should say
you're just about good enough to take on the Swordmaster. Go to the fork
and pick up the yellow petals and then go back to the shopkeeper and
tell him you want to see the Swordmaster. When he leaves follow him to
the Swordmaster's hide-out. Tell the Swordmaster you're going to kill
her and use the replies that Guybrush has learnt. If you've forgotten
them here they are in full:

Swordmaster's insult
Retort

My last fight ended with my hands covered with blood.
I hope now you've learned to stop picking your nose.

If your brother's like you better to marry a pig.
You make me think somebody already did.

Only once have I met such a coward!
He must have taught you everything you know.

You are a pain in the backside sir.
Your haemorrhoids are flaring up again eh?

There are no clever moves that can help you now.
Yes there are you just never learned them.

Now I know what filth and stupidity really are.
I'm glad to hear you attended your family reunion.

My wisest enemies run away at the first sight of me.
Even BEFORE they smell your breath?

My tongue is sharper than any sword.
First you'd better stop waving it like a feather duster.

No one will ever catch me fighting as badly as you do.
You run THAT fast?

I usually see people like you passed out on tavern floors.
Even before they smell your breath?

I've got a long sharp lesson for you today.
And I've got a little tip for you. Get the point?

Every word you say to me is stupid.
I wanted to make sure you'd feel comfortable with me.

I will milk every drop of blood from your body.
How appropriate you fight like a cow.

My Name is feared in every dirty corner of this island.
So you got that job as janitor after all.

I've got the courage and skill of a master swordsman.
I'd be in real trouble if you ever used them.

My sword is famous all over the Caribbean.
Too bad no one's heard of YOU at all.

I hope you have a boat ready for a quick escape.
Why did you want to borrow one?

When you've defeated the Swordmaster you're rewarded with a 100% cotton
T-shirt. Take it and go tell the pirates in the bar. The second trial is
to find the treasure. You find the treasure by going to the fork on the
overview map and going to the woods at the fork. Take the exits
indicated by the dance steps and if you come across the yellow petals
pick them up if you couldn't find them earlier. Follow the directions
you're given and when you have completed the steps you should come to a
clearing. Walk to the right and read the plaque. Use the shovel on the
X. Pick up the T-shirt then go the the governor's mansion which is in
the main part of the village. Use the petals on the meat and then give
the meat to the dogs to put them to sleep. Go into the mansion get the
vase and go in the door beside the entrance. Go back to the jail. Give
Otis the gopher repellent and he gives you the cake. Eat the cake and
you get the file. Go back up to the mansion. Go inside go through the
hole and you should have the idol. You'll get caught by the sheriff so
talk to him and the governor. When you have finished talking the
governor leaves and the sheriff catches you and you are thrown over the
dock into the sea. Pick up the idol and the other items and climb up the
ladder. When you are on the dock the blind look-out talks to you and
tells you the governor has been kidnapped by LeChuck. He gives you a
note from LeChuck. Go back to the Scumm bar. Collect all the mugs from
both rooms and talk to the cook. Ask him where you can get a ship and go
into the kitchen. Use a mug on the barrel to fill it with grog and then
go to the jail and while you're walking tip the grog from the melting
mug into the ordinary mug. When you get to the jail use the mug on the
cell's lock which sets Otis free. Convince him to join your crew but
whatever you say he won't join. Go back to the main map screen. Go to
the USed Ship Emporium and tell Stan you have no money and want credit.
When he refuses start to leave and he gives you a compass and business
card. Go back to the shop. Tell the shopkeeper that you want a credit
note and when he asks if you have a job say yes. Remember the
combination of the safe and when the shopkeeper finds out you don't have
a job ask him to go see the Swordmaster. When he leaves open the safe
and take the note. Go back to Stan's Used Ship Emporium. Ask to see the
cheapest ship and tell Stan you have a credit note. When he asks about
the extras say no to all of them. Ask him how much he will sell the ship
for and refuse his offers and walk away. Say you can live without that
piece of junk until he offers a price you can afford and then buy the
ship. Go to Hook Island at the top of the screen known as hook island.
Use the rubber chicken on the rope to get to the house. Go inside. Talk
to Meathook and tell him about the governor being kidnapped. Tell him
you are going to rescue the governor and are getting a crew together.
Say you are brave enough to be a captain and when he opens the large
door open the little door and tickle the little creature. Meathook will
join your crew. Go to see the Swordmaster and tell her about the
governor and she will join your crew. Go to the dock outside the Scumm
bar and Stan gives you some leaflets. You're ready to set sail.

2 - The journey
---------------
Walk through the door and into the captain's bedroom. Pick up the
feather and the pen and open the drawer. Pick up the book and read it.
Leave the room and climb up the rope-ladder and get the Jolly Roger. Go
down into the hold pick up the rope and the gunpowder from the kegs and
the wine from the chest and then go back up and down the hatch into the
kitchen. Open the cupboard. Open and eat the cereal and take the key.
Pick up the small pot and go back to the captains room. Open the cabinet
with the key. Open the chest. Pick up the recipe and the sticks of
cinnamon. Go back to the kitchen. Get the pot and throw all the
ingredients - the mints - the cinnamon sticks - the Jolly Roger - the
wine - the chicken - the gunpowder - the cereal and the ink into the
cooking pot. When you wake up you're at Monkey Island. Light the book in
the ifre. Use the feather on the over. Go below and get some more
gunpowder. Go back to the deck. Put the rope in the cannon. Put the
gunpowder in the nozzle and then use the pot.

3 - Monkey Island
-----------------
Talk to Herman. Pick up the banana and walk to the jungle. Click on the
small grey dot and you find a monkey. Give him the bananas. Walk to the
jungle and then to the top of the screen. Go to the fork in the river.
Get the rock and read the note. Look at the rock. Climb the handholds
and pull the artifact twice. Climb the handholds. Talk to Herman and
tell him that it's a nice view. Push the rock and it should fall and hit
the banana tree. If the rock doesn't hit the tree pick up another rock
from the pile adjust the device and try again. Go to the beach and pick
up the bananas. Go back to the jungle and then go to the right and into
the fort. Talk to Herman. Push the cannon. Pick up the rope and the spy
glass and the cannon ball. Take some of the gunpowder and go back to the
bridge at the fork in the river. Use the gunpowder on the dam then go
back to the fort and get some more gunpowder to put on the dam. Open the
spy-glass and use the lens on the sun and the gunpowder will explode
which makes the dam burst. After you've floated away walk down one
screen and walk to the crack. Tie the rope to the branch and walk to the
pond and pick up another rope. Go back to the crack climb down the first
rope and tie the other rope to a branch. Climb down. Pick up the oars
and go to the boat on the first beach. Row to the north part of the
island. Land on the second beach and walk into the jungle. Go to the
village and walk to the bowls of fruit. Pick up the bananas. Walk to the
right and talk to the cannibals. In the hut pick up the skull and the
vines then pick up the loose plank from the floor and you can escape. Go
back to your boat and row to the beach you first landed on. Find the
monkey and give him all the bananas you have and he follows you. Go up
and then right and to the clearing. Walk to the right and pull the nose
on the nearest totem pole. Walk to the head and the monkey climbs the
pole. Walk through the gate and pick up the smallest idol. Go back to
the boat and row back to the cannibals. Talk to the cannibals and give
them the idol and they give you freedom and a favour. Go into the hut
where you were kept prisoner and take the banana picker. Leave the hut
and give the banana picker to Herman - he gives you the key to the
monkey head. Go back to the clearing and use the monkey key on the
monkey head's ear to open the secret passage. Go back and talk to the
cannibals and then you are off to get the root. When they have finished
talking give them the leaflet in exchange for the navigator's head. Go
back to the large monkey head in the clearing and enter the monkey head.
The navigator's head shows you the way to LeChuck's ship so you just
have to follow its nose. When you reach the ship talk to the head and
beg for the necklace as often as possible. When you get the necklace
wear it and board the ship. Go down the hatch and then go east down the
passageway into the store. Try to pick up the chicken but it gets away
and leaves a feather. Pick up the feather go back to the pirate who's
asleep and tickle his feet with the feather. Get the grog then go back
to the deck and into LeChuck's room. Use the magnetic compass on the key
and it flies at you. Go out of the door and back to the chickends and
you see a hatch. Unlock it with the key and go down. Use the grog in the
dish and get the grease. Go back on the deck and use the grease on the
creaky door. Open the door. Go in the room. Pick up the tools and go
back to the chickens. Use the tools on the glowing chest and pick up the
roots. Leave the ship and you are taken back to the village. Give the
roots to the people and they give you the pirate killing potion. Go back
to the ship and the crew has left. Talk to the pirate and your crew
finds you. Talk to your crew and you go back to Melee Island.

4 - The End
-----------
Use the root-beer potion on the pirate ghosts you meet and then go
towards the wedding. Stop the wedding and talk to the Governor and
LeChuck. A bottle of ginger beer comes out the vending machine at Stan's
shop. Pick it up and use it on LeChuck. Now sit back and watch the
marvellous end-game sequence.

the game. You may want to try out other
possibilities not written here.
Part One - The Three Trials
In in rt of the story. You must complete
three trials in order to prove that you are fit to
be a pirate. The three trials are:
     Mastering the sword

get a shovel. Then go and dig for the treasure.
Walk to the Scumm Bar. Open the door and get
inside Talk to the pirates inside to find out about
the situation on the island. Talk to the important
looking pirates and they will tell you about the
three trials. When the cook is serving the pirates.
Get inside the kitchen. Get the meat, and the pot.
Chase the bird away by rocking the plank. When it
fly away, get the fish.
Now, walk to the cliffside to the outpost.
Walk to theth outside the village. You will see
map with a figure representing Threepwood. Go to
the clearing. You will find a circus there. Go
inside and you will find two brothers quarreling.
Talk to the Fettucini Brothers. They will ask you
to perform a dangerous feat. When ask whether you
have brought a helmet, show them the pot you found
in the kitchen. Go ahead and do the feat, you will
beid 478 pieces of eight.
Now that you have enough money, go back to the
village. Walk along the street until you found a
man with arrot. Buy the map from him. Talk to
the three men standing in front of a rat. Take the
minute if theyy you 2 pieces of eight.
Walk to the voodoo house. It is in one of the
house between the man with therrot and the three
men with a rat. Walk inside and get the rubber
chicken. Walk to the right and talk to the voodoo
man inside. Ask him about you fortune.
Go to the old man shop. It is the first house
you will find after you walkss the archway under
the clock. Press the bell if he is not around. Get
the sword and shovel. Pay the required amount to
the old man before you leave. The shopkeeper only
sell certain items when do certain things. So,
after some encounter, you might want to return here
again.
Go outside the village. Walk to the bridge.
Give the fish to the troll so that you may ss.
You might want to talk to the troll before you give
him the fish.
Go to the house. Open the door and talk to the
one eye jack. Pay him the fee required to learn
sword fighting. Show him the sword you have bought.
After many hours of training, you will learn how to
fight.
In this game, sword fighting skill is
dependent on how well you can insult your opponent
as well as responding correctly to an insult. You
will begin with a few insults and responds. As you
come across other insults and responds, they will
be added to your own list. So what you should do
now is to fight with all those pirates that are
moving around on the map. Just put yourself near
the fork and they will automatically look for you.
There is no need for you to go after them. Make
sure you remember the correct responds. If you find
a new insult, you should use as soon as possible so
that you will know its correct responds. The better
insults are listed at the top of your list. After
you have won enough battle. You can then seek the
swordmaster.
Go to the fork. Take the following th to
reach the swordmaster.
North. You should see a plant with yellow
flowers. Pick up the flowers. North. East. East.
West. North. You should see a sign post. Push it to
lower the bridge. Cross the bridge and you will
find the swordmaster. Once the swordmaster is
found, you can go there directly from the map. You
will need to respond to her insult correctly for
five times before you can defeat her. Choose the
correct responds from those you have gathered. Try
until you have defeated her. Once defeated, her
will give you something to prove her defeat.
Go back to the village and go to the
governor's house. The mansion is guarded by deadly
piranha poodles. Use the yellow petal on the meat.
The meat will become drugged. Give the meat with
condiment to the dogs. After they fell asleep, get
inside the mansion. Open the door inside the
mansion and you will get into the fight. This
sequence is automatic, so sit back watch the cut
screen. Check your inventory after the fight, a few
items will be added to it. You will need a file in
order to get the idol.
Go to the prison and talk to prisoner. You
will find that he will need some breadth
refreshers. Go back to the shopkeeper and this time
you can buy the breadth mints from him. Get the
breadth mints and give it to the prisoner. Ask him
for the file, he will then ask you for some rat
repellent. Give the gopher repellent you found in
the mansion to the prisoner and he will give you a
carrot cake in return. Use (eat) the cake. There is
a file inside.
Now, go back to the mansion to get the idol.
Jump into the gaping hole and you will get into
another fight. After getting the idol. Talk to the
sheriff. The governor will appears and chase the
sheriff away. Talk to her (if you could). After she
left, open the door to get outside the mansion. The
sheriff will be waiting for you. You will be then
be thrown into the sea by the sheriff. Inside the
water, get idol and then walk up. Talk to the
governor on the docks.
Go to the Scumm Bar and talk to important
pirates. Tell them your progress.
Now go the the fork again. This time you will
need to find the lost treasure. Take the following
path. North. You should see yellow flowers. West.
You will find a campsite here. Take the left th
to the north. West. North. West. You should see a
skeleton here. North. North. East. West. North. You
should find a place full of red flowers. East. You
will find an 'X' on the ground. Use the shovel on
the 'X' to get the treasure.
Return to the village. You see the ghost ship
sailing away. Talk to the cook. He will tell you
that the governor was kidnaped by the ghost pirate,
LeChuck. Now, you must find a ship and get a crew
of three to go after the ghost ship.
Go to the Scumm Bar. Pick up all the five mugs
that are on the tables. Go to the kitchen. Use the
mug with the barrel which contains grog. The grog
inside is very corrosive and thus a mug will not
hold the grog for long. When the mug is near dead,
use it with another mug. You got no time to loose
now, so better hurry up. Find the shortestth to
the prison. Change the mugs on the way. When you
reach the prison. Use the melting mug on the lock
to melt it. Ask the prisoner to join your crew. If
the mug is dead before you switch, go back to the
bar and try again. Don't worry, you can always get
new mugs in the bar.
Go to the swordmaster place. Ask her to join
you. She will agree and ask you to meet her at the
docks.
Walk outside the village and go to the shore.
Use the rubber chicken on the cable to reach the
island. The man, Meathook will ask you to take a
test. The test is quite simple. Touch the beast and
he will join you.
Go to the place where you find lights. You can
find Stan's Used Ship Emporium there. Talk to Stan.
Make sure you mention about buying the ships on
credit. Well, you might want to look through all
the ships but you will not be able to any single
one of them. Before you leave, he will give you a
business card.
Now go the the shopkeeper house. You might
want to save the game at this moment. Ask him to
get a note of credit for you. He will open the safe
and get the note. Watch how he open the safe. When
you are sure of the correct combination (Note that
the combination is different when you start another
game. So, it is not possible to write it down in
this solution) If you miss the combination, go
outside and come back again. The shopkeeper will
repeat the sequence again. When you are sure of the
combination, Ask him to look for the swordmaster.
Open the safe while he is away. Get the note of
credit from the safe.
Walk outside the village. Go the the Used Ship
Emporium. Talk to the man. Buy the Sea Monkey from
him with the note of credit. Make sure you do your
bargaining with him. You can do away with all the
extra in order to cut price. Start your offer with
the minimum amount and gradually increases. When
you bought the ship, he will give you a magnetic
coss.
Go back to the village. Your crews and ship
will be waiting for you to set sail.
Part Two - The Journey
After your conversation with the crew. You
will find yourself in the captain's room. Get
feather pen, ink. Open drawer and get the dusty
book. Read the book carefully, it gives hints as to
how to reach the Monkey Island.
Walk to deck. Talk to crew. Walk to rope
ladder. Get the Jolly Roger (pirate flag) on top.
Go down to the deck. Walk to the hatch behind
the crew. You will find another hatch that led to
the store and a door that led to the kitchen. Walk
to kitchen. Get pot. Open cupboard, get cereal.
Open cereal to get the prize. Look at the prize,
it's a small key! Go down the second hatch to the
store room. Open the chest to get the fine wine.
Get the giant coil of rope. Open the kegs to get
gunpowder.
Go the captain's room. Open the cabinet with
the small key. Open the chest inside the cabinet to
get a recipe and some cinnamon sticks. Read the
recipe.
Go to the kitchen. It's time to get rid of all
the redundant stuff in your inventory. Use the pot
with the followings:
     minutes
     note
     business card
     feather pen
     cereal
     piece ofper
     Jolly Roger
     ink
     breath mints
     fine wine
     100% cotton T-shirt
     T-shirt
     rubber chicken
     staple remover
     small key
     dusty book
     cinnamon sticks
     gunpowder
The pot will explode and release a voodoo
spell that will bring the ship to the Monkey
Island. Note that not all items are necessary to be
thrown into the pot. You do it just to reduce your
inventory list. So throw in the gunpowder only when
you have got rid of all the redundant items. Don't
worry, any items that could be thrown into the pot
is not important.
Use the map on the red hot fire to get a
flaming mass. Go to the store room to get more
gunpowder. Go to the deck. Use the gunpowder in the
cannon nozzle. Use the rope on the cannon to serve
as a fuse. Now, use the pot as a helmet. Light the
cannon and sent yourself to Monkey Island.
Part Three - Under Monkey Island
Some explanations
The island can be assess by clicking at the
crosshair to move your character. When move to a
place of interest, its name will be shown. The
names of location used here are exactly those used
in the game. When in doubt, move around until the
appropriate place is found.
The cannon will sent you to the beach. Pick up
banana.
Go to the fort to the western side of the
island. Push cannon. Get cannon ball. Get
gunpowder. Get rope. Get spyglass. Talk to Herman
Toothrot.
Go to river fork. Pick up stone under note.
Look at the stone, it's a piece of flint. Climb up
the hill with the footholds. At the middle of the
hill, you will find a catapult. You can push/pull
it to adjust its aim. Go to the hill top. Use the
spyglass. If you don't see the banana tree, go down
and adjust the catapult again. Do it until you have
the banana tree on target. Push the rock to
activate the catapult. A message will be shown if
you hit the banana tree. If your hit is not
successful. Pick up another rock from the heap of
rock and try again. Hitting the tree will cause the
bananas to drop. You can collect it later on when
you go to the beach. Go down the hill.
Go to the pond at the end of the dry river
bed. You will find a man hanging on the tree. There
is a coil of rope on his hand. So, in order to get
the rope. Go back to the river fork. Walk to dam.
Use gunpowder on dam. Use the flint on the cannon
ball to produce a rk. This will blow up the dam
and release the water. Go back to the pond, the log
will be floating and the dead body is on the
ground. Get the rope from the dead body.
Go to the crack. There is air of oars at
the bottom. Tie the rope on the strong branch. Go
down the rope. Tie the other rope on the sturdy
stump. Climb down to get the oars.
Go the beach with the banana tree. Pick up the
bananas. Use the oars on the boat. Now, you can
travel by sea to the northernrt of the island.
Note that you must land your boat on a beach before
you can travel on foot.
Go to the village to the north. Walk to the
giant head to the left. Pick up the bananas on the
fruit bowl. Walk out of the village. You will be
stopped by three cannibals. Talk to them. They will
then lock you inside their guest room. Inside hut,
get skull. Open the loose board underneath the
skull. The hole will let you get out of the
village.
Go to the forest north of the beach with the
banana tree to find the monkey. Look at the monkey.
Give all the five bananas to the monkey. This will
make him happy and follows you. When successful you
will find a gray dot following you wherever you go.
If you happen to lose sight of him, go back to look
for him. (This only happened when you travel by
boat)
Go to the clearing at the eastern end of the
island. Make sure the monkey is following you. Walk
to totem pole. Move the cursor around until you
find the nose on the totem pole. Pull the nose to
open the gate. The monkey will then pull the nose
for you so that you can go near the Gigantic
Monkey's Head. Pick up the wimpy little idol. Look
at idol.
Go back to the village. Give the idol to the
cannibals. They will then be friendly to you. Walk
to the hut where you were taken to the other time.
This time the door is opened. Get the banana
picker. Walk to the right. The hermit Toothrot will
be waiting for you. Give him the banana picker and
he will give you the monkey head key. Exit the
village and come back again. The cannibals will
talk to you. Give them the leaflet. They will give
you the navigator's head and necklace.
Go to the Gigantic Monkey Head. Use the key
the dig the Gigantic Monkey Ear to open the Monkey
Head. This will open the Gigantic Monkey Head. Walk
inside the Monkey Head. Use the navigator's head.
It's nose will be pointing to the correct
direction. Follow it until you have found the ghost
ship.
Don't go inside the ship yet. Talk to the
navigator's head. Ask him until he agreed to give
you the necklace. Wear the necklace before you
enter the ghost ship. It will make you invisible to
the ghosts.
Go to the captain's room. Use the magnetic
coss on the key. Walk to the deck. Climb down
the hatch. You will be in the bedroom. Walk to the
passage to the right. You will find some ghost
chickens there. Get the ghost feather. Unlock the
hatch with the key. Go down and you will find
yourself surrounded by rats. You will need to get
something in order to getss the rats. Go back to
the bedroom. Use the ghost feather on the sleeping
ghost. When tickled, he will drop the wine bottle.
Get the jug o'grog and go back to the rats room.
Pour the jug o'grog on the dish. The rats will get
drunk after drinking it. Get the glob of grease.
Go back to the deck. Use the glob of grease on
the squeaky door. Open the door. Get the ghost
tools beside the ghost guard. Go back to the ghost
chickens. Use the ghost tools on the glowing crate
to open it. Get the voodoo root. Go back to the
cave.
Cut screen : You will travel back to the
village and give the root to the cannibals. They
will then prre the root for you. Then you will
travel all the way back to the ghost ship. You will
find that the ship is gone. The ghost pirate,
LeChuck, is going to marry the governor. So, you
will need to go back to Melee Island to stop the
wedding. Talk to funny ghost. Don't kill him. When
your crew is back, listen to their conversation.
Last Part - GuyBrush Kicks Butt
After another journey, you will be at the
docks in the village. Use the potion on any ghost
you encounter.
Find you way to the church. Talk to LeChuck.
Your potion will becomes jammed and you will be
whack by the ghost pirate continually. You will be
flying all over the place.
When you find yourself in the emporium. Try to
get the root beer before the ghost hit you. After
you get the root beer, try to use it on the ghost.
If you did it successfully, you will destroy the
ghost. Talk to governor and watch the fireworks.

Solution #5 for Secret of Monkey Island, The

This is a general start for Secret Of Monkey Island. The 1st thing you do is
go into the SCUMM bar, talk to all the pirates. Then go into next room and
talk to the 3 important Pirates. After that wait for the cook to exit the
kitchen, and enter that, take the slab of meat, and dip it in the boiling
Stuff. Go outside step on far right corner and knock the bird in the air, take
the Fish.

Go back inside, dip the fish in the boiling stuff Pick up the pot under the
counter and exit. Next go visit the Voodoo guy and he says some crap, but take
the single rubber chicken. Next go outside to the pirates and talk them into
giving you a map and some money. Next go into the jail talk to the guy and he
will want breath mints go to the store buy them, and give it to the guy, he
will ask you for a trade....

You can also go into the cliffs by going directly left up from the 1st screen
you start on, if you are in the path you can take a yellow petal from a flower
bush... I have found an Island house with no way across other to use the
chicken pulley.. Another thing, i have found the Troll, he wants something,
you give him the stewed fish, and he lets you pass.. You then can go to a
house and you will find the guy who will train you. Ok now go to the circus,
and use the pot as a helmet. They will give you money, you then go to the
store and buy a shovel, and a sword. leave town, and go to the trainer's
house, he'll teach you about sword play, then leave. Go out and see all the
walking pirates, and learn their insults. go into the fork again, and wander
around, when you see a small sign, push it with your shovel. Then walk along
the wood bridge, and find the sword master. Challenge and beat her.. (You can
also ask the merchant where the Swordmaster is and when he goes to see her,
follow him.)

Great You have completed 1/3 of being a pirate.. Now continue to walk around
and find an 'X' dig there and get the second treasure... Ok now make your way
to the governors mansion, and put the yellow petal in the meat and give to
piranhas dogs. They will go to sleep. Go into he house, take the vase open the
door, and enter.. Just watch it is kind of cool.. Then when you exit, go back
to the jail, give the prisoner the gopher repellant. He will give you a cake,
Open the cake and look at the file.. Go back to Governors house, go through
hole in wall, watch some more. Congrats you have just gotten the 3rd part of
being a pirate..

Now go back to the Chicken Pulley Island, swing across, tell the chrome dome
that the governor was captured, let him think, and when you play with the
animal, stroke it! Now go to the Master Swordsmen, tell her about the
governor, get her to join you. Now go to Scumm bar, pick up another slab of
meat, and all the mugs you can find.. Fill 1 cup with grog, and exit, make
your way to the jail. when you are about to lose the mug o' grog, select the
use mug (with the liquid) and replace with new mug.. then do it again when
it is near death.. Then when you get to the jail, use the grog on the jail
cell. You have freed him, Now ask him to join you.. Ok now go to Stan's (Boat
Place) and ask to buy a boat, he will tell you you need credit so go to the
store in town ( he will also give you a business card, and a compass).. Ask
the guy for a note, and WATCH HOW HE OPENS THE SAFE, when he puts note back
ask him to go speak to sword master. Then go up to safe use the push/pull
thing on the handle to open safe, get note close safe, and go back to stan.
When you go to stan ask him for the boat in the far back. You say $5000, he
will say no, so u leave, he calls you back, you then buy the boat for $5000!
Now go to where you 1st start game, and you will meet stan, he will want to
buy boat back, and it is kinda funny! This is the end of part 1!

There is a part when the sheriff throws you in the water, you get the
idol, and climb out, you automatically get the sword.

On the ship, you learn you have a mutinous crew. There is no way to get them
to continue, so do not waste your time. Go into captains cabin. Pick up the
ink, the feather pen, open the desk drawer take the book.. Now go on deck, go

business card in flame under pot, now go up to deck, putbig rope on cannon,
put gunpowder in cannon nozzle. Use Pot. K-A-B-O-O-M! Part 2 has ended.

powder, pick up cannon ball. Now go to fork (East). Pick up the noteable rock,
goto the damn, place gunpowder in damn, use noteable rock on cannon ball..

When you get to Stiff (Dead Persom). Take his rope, now goto the crack, (South
West) Use the rope to climb down, then use other rope to climb down. Pick up
the oars, and climb back up! Go back to the fork. Go over edge, clib up
footholds, when at top, go to middle top of plataeu pus rock off, if it hits
bananna tree it is cool, if it hits your ship it is cool. If you miss, then go
down footholds to that art sculpture, and move it. Climb back up, pick up the
Pile 'O Rock, and use it again, do this repeatedly, (Moving sculpture) When
both the ship and the tree have been hit, go back to tree (Where you 1st
landed) Pick up that banana, now goto row boat, use oars on rowboat, now
paddle to Village.

Go into village, goto west screen, pick up bananas, u get put in jail, pick up
