•[ Introduction ]•

I have been a First Person Shooter fan ever since the original
Quake© and Duke Nukem 3D© came out. I played Quake© alot (mainly
the multiplayer mode over the next which was exremel sweet :D)
and when Quake II© came out I immediately bought it but was
dissapointed with the multiplayer on the game. But then Quake
3: Arena© came out and took multiplayer and made a full game out
of it. No single player... only multiplayer, I bought it straight
away and loved it. Quake 3© is a fantastic game and it's only
rival is Unreal Tournament©.

This FAQ is meant to give your some strategy/tips etc. on the game,
so if you happen to have anything you want to contribute then
send it to sk3lt@hotmail.com

Thanks and read on :D

•[ Weapons ]•

If you want to be the Q3 Fraq King then you have to know which
weapon to use when you a fighting someone, so here are the list
of weapons available and their strenghts and weaknesses:

Gauntlet
--------

The Gauntlet is a your melee weapon and should always be used
when there is a group of people or when you don't have any other
weapons left.

Strengths:

- Can take off quite alot of health if used
- Never run out of ammo
- Combined with the Quad Damage can do amazing amounts of damage

Weaknesses:

- Only effective at close range
- Too slow

Machinegun
----------

The machine gun is a all around good weapon which should always
used to finish off a job or to spray your bullets amongst a group
of people.

Strengths:

- Fast rate of fire
- Direct impact upon fire
- Effective at any distance

Weaknesses:

- Does little damage
- Chews ammo quickly

Shotgun
-------

All First Person shooters have to have a shotgun. The shotgun is
perfect to use when facing enemies that are close up and the closer
your range is to the target the more damage it takes.

Strengths:

- Very Powerful from close range
- Can hit multiple enemies from a distance

Weaknesses:

- Does little damage the future away you are
- The bullets spread out over a long distance so you might actually
  miss the target all together.

Plasma Gun
----------

Very similar to the machine gun but this time firing balls of plasma
instead of bullets... like with the Machinegun, it is good for
clearing out a room.

Strengths:

- Fast rate of fire
- Powerful

Weaknesses:

- Chews ammo quickly
- Easy to dodge plasma

Grenade Launcher
----------------

A great gun that has many strenths and only a couple or weaknesses.

Strengths:

- Gibs almost anything that moves
- Great for groups of enemies
- Great around corners
- Good from high places

Weaknesses:

- Slow loading
- Not very good in a frantic battle

Rocket Launcher
---------------

Oh my how I love this Gun!!! The feeling seeing a rocket slowly
guide its way to the target and see a rainfall of gibs at the end
of it is soooo satisfying. Always shoot a bit in front of your
character and always aim at the feet of the target.

Strengths:

- Great for groups of enemies
- Great for campers
- Great from distances
- Big splash damage

Weaknesses:

- Not very wise to shoot up close
- Slow travel speed, which is very easy to dodge

Lightning Gun
-------------

Looks good in action but not a very good all-round gun

Strengths:

- A Silent Weapon

Weaknesses:

- Very Limited Range
- Very Rare in the game
- Not enough strength
- You have to hold the lightning on the enemy to be effective

Rail Gun
--------

I really really really love this gun! :P It's basically a souped
up sniper rifle (if you have seen the movie Eraser you would know
its the gun off there but this the one in Q3© can't zoom through
walls :C)

Strengths

- Can Zoom in really far
- Can kill with one hit

Weaknesses

- You need to be really good with the mouse
- Slow rate of fire

BFG10K
------

Remember the BFG (Big ****ing Gun :P heh) from Doom? Well this time
it has been changed and basically is a powerful plasma gun that is
like shooting with a rocket launcer with a faster rate of fire.

Strengths:

- Power
- Fast rate of fire

Weaknesses:

- Quickly chews through ammo
- Very very rare to find.

•[ Enemies ]•

Anarki (Cybronic Human)
-----------------------

Always seeking an edge, this cyber-board surfer paid with his
humanity for a seemingly endless array of cybronic implants.

Angel (Humanoid Robot)
----------------------

Although certainly not a classical beauty, Angel was created by a
sculptor to be his ideal companion. She quickly proved herself to be
a creature of hate, not love-killing her maker in a berserk fury.

Biker (Human)
-------------

Biker is crude and coarse: a bully who gets his kicks out of
hammering helpless opponents. He may not be smart or brave, but he's
brutal as hell.

Bitterman (Human)
-----------------

This hero of the Strogg War may also be its most tragic victim. While
a captive on Stroggos, vile experiments transformed his flesh into
something both far more and far less than human.

Bones (Human Skeleton)
----------------------

This fearsome foe showcases the powers of the Vadrigar, for it has no
true life of its own. But it begs the question: Where do the gibs
and blood come from??

Cadavre (Undead Human)
----------------------

Cadavre is a brutal murderer who couldn't be executed. The electric
chair, gallows, and gas chamber only made him meaner.

Crash (Human)
-------------

Once, she was Doom's military instructor. Now the Arena Eternal tests
Crash's mettle to the extreme-extreme patience, that is. She is the
trainer who introduces new warriors to the skills of battle.

Daemia (Human)
--------------

The bounty hunter, Daemia, long ago stopped caring who or what was
in her sights. Enemies are enemies whether they're human, alien, or
demons from the pits of hell.

Doom (Human)
------------

Long after everyone else on Phobos was dead, he kept fighting,
determined to send out a warning to Earth before the demons could
claim him.

Gorre (Cybronic Human)
----------------------

Born in the breeder tank of a genetics lab and nurtured in a cybronics
workshop, Gorre was created to be the ultimate warrior...at least
in his own mind.

Grunt ( Human)
--------------

A mentally shattered veteran of the invasion of Stroggos, Private
Nathan Grunt is still fighting a war that ended years ago.

Hossman (Human)
---------------

Easily mistaken for a big, clumsy oaf, Hossman is a deadly opponent
whose agility is a match for his fearsome strength.

Hunter (Human)
--------------

When her village on Tau Ceti was decimated by the Sorg, Hunter vowed
to seek out and destroy the reptiloids wherever they might hide.

Keel (Cybronic Human)
---------------------

Lance Corporal Ben Keel died during the Spiker Insurrection-only to
be revived as a humanoid battle machine by scientists experimenting
with captured alien biotechnology.

Klesk (Alien Chitinid)
----------------------

Half religious zealot, half gifted mystic and all bizarre alien,
Klesk cleanses his soul with the purifying fire of combat.

Lucy (Human)
------------

A former prison guard, Lucy crossed the line and ended up on the
other side of the bars where every hour was a battle for survival.

Major (Human)
-------------

A veteran of the Stroggos campaign, Major Wayland is haunted by the
memories of her fallen troops and the parasites that killed them.
It may be that she believes she's still fighting that long-concluded
war.

Mynx (Human)
------------

Fashion model, master assassin, or adult entertainer: Which is the
real Mynx? She's part viper, part black widow, and all woman.

Orbb (Alien Cybronic Construct)
-------------------------------

Designed by the Vadrigar to monitor combat in the arena, Orbb
evolved beyond his specifications and became a deadly combatant.

Patriot (Cybronic Human Vampire)
--------------------------------

A twisted combination of cybronic implants and super natural powers,
Patriot is a throwback to the days of nationalism-before mankind
found other enemies among the stars.

Phobos (Human)
--------------

An experienced veteran, he led the invasion of the demon-haunted
tunnels of Phobos. There, he was betrayed by superiors who thought
they could learn more from watching him die than by studying his
reports.

Ranger (Human)
--------------

Originally a slipgate explorer, the man called Ranger has faced and
escaped certain death a thousand times on a thousand worlds. His
experiences have left him more alien than human now.

Razor (Human)
-------------

During a time of civil unrest on Earth, Razor and his gang of
vigilante followers enforced a rigid, brutal code of justice in the
Pacific Northwest. Razor never admits defeat and shows no mercy in
defense of order.

Sarge (Human)
-------------

A grizzled combat veteran with plenty of scars to prove it, Sarge is
the master of modern warfare. He's clever, determined, and deadly.

Slash (Cybronic Human)
----------------------

A young force-blade punk from the streets of Los Angeles, Slash
became a test bed for the hottest cybronic implants, turning her
into a barely-contained bundle of energy.

Sorlag (Reptiloid Alien)
------------------------

This mercenary Sorg merchant long ago resolved to do whatever it
took to get ahead, no matter how many others had to die in order to
line her coffers.

Stripe (Human)
--------------

Raised on the mean streets of a post-apocalyptic city, Stripe avoided
crime and drugs by being tougher than the gangs and pushers.

Tankjr (Cybronic Human/Strogg Crossbreed)
-----------------------------------------

The spawn of a human Tank Commander and an Iron Maiden of Stroggos,
Tankjr is a sadistic bio-tech nightmare.

Uriel (Gargoyle)
----------------

For untold eons, Mankind has known and feared Uriel's diabolical kind.
The aura of evil and death hanging around this gladiator is enough
to send a chill down the spine of any opponent.

Visor (Cybronic Human)
----------------------

Visor is an enigma who says nothing about his past, letting his
weapons do all his talking for him.

Wrack (Human)
-------------

Wrack is a shell-shocked Slipgate War veteran who relives countless
battles through a haze of imagined glories, half-remembered facts,
and exaggerated personal abilities.

Xaero (Mutated, Cybronic Human)
-------------------------------

The most dangerous enemy in the arena, Xaero embraces honorable death.
He longs for the day when he will meet the opponent who frees him
from the shackles of life eternal-if such a warrior exists.

•[ Frag Strategies ]•

Here are a few strategies to help you become the Frag King of Quake III:
Arena©:

General Tips:

All Your Ears Are Belong To Us:

Heh, well this actually is a major element of strategy in Quake 3© and if
you can hear your enemies running around try to pinpoint where abouts in
the level they are... for example if you hear the sound from the left of
you then go towards the left until the footsteps get louder and then you
will find your enemy. Although note that this can be used vice versa so
instead of running try walking.

I'll be back ... or will you?:

Most people run into a Quake 3© game thinking that they are a major Frag
King and just attempt to mow down everyone they see, sure it will get
you 1 or 2 kills but you will die very quickly. If you plan your attacks
and defense then you can manage up to 50 kills if you are good enough
(if you can get up to 50 kills without dying then you are already 'The
Frag King' so you might as well stop reading now and kick some ass in the
game).

*Click*.... oh ****!!!:

That sound... *click* man how you hate hearing that sound in Quake 3©.
If you don't know what I am talking about, picture this.... you are
in a heavy battle facing 2 other enemies and you are just about to kill
them when all of a sudden *click* yes that's right you have run and of
ammo and before you know it, you have a rocket implanted into your ass
and your body parts are 5 feet away in all directions. Pretty scary huh?
Well this is what you do to help - Keep a mental note on how much ammo
is left in your weapon and count down every time you fire. When you
know you are running out of ammo, retreat away to a safe spot to either
reload or change guns.

Everybody *bounce* wit' me:

You may find those bounce pads to be extremely annoying but when you master
the technique of using them you can be able to dodge bullets or rockets or
even get the almighty quad damage.

*zzzzuiop* ... WTF?:

Hehe those personal teleports can be annoying if you are just about to kill
the enemy and then *zzzzuiop* he/she has dissapeard. This is good on your
side as if you are about to die then you can just get out of there... but
the only bad thing about it is, if you do teleport you may actually reappear
right where you just where since it is random.

Tricky Maneuveurs:

Rocket Jumping - Ahhh... A true Q3 professional is able to rocket jump to
any heights without losing that much health. To perform a rocket jump you
need to look down at the ground and fire a rocket from the rocket launcher,
but as soon as the rockets impacts the ground you need to jump so that
the rockets' blast radius propells you through the sky to your desired
location... the only problem is getting the timing right, but with lots of
practice (and not to forget frags) you will be rocket jumping in no time.

Strafe Jumping - Similiar to Rocket Jumping but this time instead of making
you jump higher it actually increases your movement speed. The way to do
this is to press Strafe and Jump at the safe time whilst moving forward.
It may be hard to do at first but you will get used to it sooner or later.

Control Setup:

Having a mouse/keyboard setup that you are comfortable with is a very
important issue if you wish to improve your fragging skills. Below is
my Personal Setup and you can copy it if you want:

Mouse 1(left): Attack
Mouse 2(right): Zoom

Up Arrow: Forward
Down Arrow: Backward
Left Arrow: Strafe Left
Right Arrow: Strafe Right
Shift: Jump
Ctrl: Crouch
Enter: Use Item

And all the other commands can be left to default.

I find this setup to be really confortable and I use it for all FPS games.

•[ Command Listing ]•

Here is a list of some console commands that you might need to use in Quake
III: Arena©.

To enter the commands, press the ~ (tilde) key and a screen should come up.
Enter you commands in this screen and then press the ~ (tilde) key again to
get out of the screen and return to the game.

---------------------------------------------

\cg_thirdperson x

Replace x with 1 to turn the command on or 0 to turn it off
(e.g \cg_thirdperson 1 turns it on)

Use this command to toggle thirdperson view (when the view is outside of
the body rather then through the eyes) on or off.

\r_fullbright x

Replace x with 1 to turn the command on or 0 to turn it off
(e.g \r_fullbright 0 turns it off)

Increases the brightness of the lighting in the game.

\vid_restart

Restarts the program so if you changed your resolution before it applies the
changes with you having to quit out of the program and launch it again.

\cg_drawgun x

Replace x with 1 to turn the command on or 0 to turn it off

Makes the gun dissapear from your screen so if the game is running
slowly then you can turn this off to increase the frames per second a
bit.

\cg_gibs x

Replace x with 1 to turn the command on or 0 to turn it off

Toggles the gibs visibility on or off.

\cg_draw3dicons x

Replace x with 1 to turn the command on or 0 to turn it off

Toggles the 3D character heads in your HUD on or off.

\cg_shadows x

Replace x with 1 to turn the command on or 0 to turn it off

Use this to turn shadows on or off

\cg_fov xx

Changes your viewing area to any number you replace xx with... the default
number is 90. I would suggest not touching this command at all, unless you
wan't to get dizzy.

\timedemo x

Replace x with 1 to turn the command on or 0 to turn it off

Use this command to turn on your timedemo settings, once its on go back to
the main menu and go to demos then watch one of them and when it has finished
playing press ~ (tilde) again to see your Frames Per Second rating.

\cg_drawfps x

Replace x with 1 to turn the command on or 0 to turn it off

When turned on it displays a number in the top-right hand corner which shows
your current Frames Per Second number.

\iamacheater

Unlocks all movies

Welcome to my Quake III Arena Guide/FAQ. This is the first FAQ I've released,
since I never got my Worms Armageddon or Perfect Dark ones finished. This FAQ
will tell you everything you will need to know to improve at Quake III Arena,
because it will not make you an expert by just reading this, you must practice
a lot, and then even more and more, before you become an expert. If you liked
reading this FAQ then why don't you check out my other FAQS:
   1080 Snowboarding - N64
   Mario Kart 64 - N64
The next FAQ I think I'm gonna write is Unreal Tournament because it is a great
game, better than Quake III in a lot of aspects, so if you have Unreal
Tournament
you can send me some tricks and cheats to put on that guide. Email them to
'danzdelta@aol.com'.

"Untold centuries ago the Vadrigar, the mysterious Arena Masters, constructed
the Arena Eternal for their own infernal amusement. Virtually nothing is known
of these beings except that they savor the carnage and clamor of battle. As
such, they have stocked the arena with the greatest warriors of all time. And
you have just joined their ranks.

As a gladiator in the Arena Eternal, you must not only survive, but also win
each and every battle against ever more powerful opponents. Don't worry overly
much about getting "fragged." The Vadrigar won't be cheated of their favorite
sport by a little thing like death. Those who fall are instantly restored to
life and immediately thrust back into the battle, perhaps a little wiser for
their misfortunes.

When the dust, blood, and gibs settle, all warriors will have earned the right
to battle again, providing further entertainment for the Vadrigar. But only the
warrior who has fragged the most foes will be lauded as the winner. The
victorious gladiator advances to a more challenging array of arenas, until, at
last, he or she faces Xaero, Lord of the Final Arena."

================================================================================

The following bits of information are things that you will need to know or
things that will help you if you know them. There are things such as respawn
times and also just what some of the surroundings do, such as bounce pads and
teleporters. There is also the fact of the medals you get, and what you need to
do in order to get them. Lets begin.........

%%%~THE ENVIROMENT~%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Acceleration Pads and Bounce Pads
---------------------------------
Acceleration pads are the ones that look sorta like skateboard ramps, except for
the fact that they thrust for however far you need to be thrusted. The bounce
pads are the ones that propel you upwards to get you to higher ledges and
floors. You can not actually change the way you are thrusted very much and
usually if you try it will end up with you being thrown into some molten lava
surrounding the area your jumping over. Also when you are on one of the two Pads
be wary of people shooting at you when you land as they usually have their aims
set right on the spot where you are going to land. Try to keep an eye around you
while your in the air as a sharp shooter will be able to pick you off with a
railgun easily.

Gates and Teleporters
---------------------
Gates and teleporters are very alike except that you can't see whats on the
other end of a teleporter unlike on a gate. A gate/teleporter will teleport you
to another area of the level. However their is no return to a gate once you have
went through it. But with a teleporter you can walk back through the other one
you came out of.

Lava, Slime and the Void
------------------------
These are the natural hazards that plague some maps. The lava and slime will
eventually, sometimes within seconds, reduce you to no health at all. The void
however will just result in you dieing instantly no matter how much health or
armor you are currently have. However, if you get the powerup 'Battle Suit' you
will be able to swim, and walk, through the slime and lava, without losing any
health or armor, until the time expires (30 seconds). But no matter what,if you
fall into the void, you are dead,Fullstop.

Switches
--------
Switches are usually a sort of circular emblem that glows green. Walking up to
it, or shooting it will result in a door or grate nearby opening. That door, or
grate will most likely lead you to a new secret area, holding something such as
red armor, a mega health, or a powerup.

Water
-----
Water is a bad place to go unless you have a very good reason, as you move twice
as slow than if you weren't in the water. And, obviously, if you move twice as
slow it will make you twice as likely to be shot and killed. But the bots don't
seem to notice that, so get yourself a rocket launcher and frag 'em all! Note
that you will have to surface every now and then to avoid losing health and
drowning.

%%%~RESPAWN TIMES~%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

When you know the respawn times for all the weapons and powerups, you can easily
win a match as you can keep going back for the armor, and Quad Damage as soon as
it appears, to keep count try counting down so you know when to go back and get
it again. In Teamplay games everything will respawn a lot later than what is
said here. The following times are for Free For All games only.....

 WEAPON -------> 5
 ARMOR --------> 25
 HEALTH -------> 35
 AMMO BOX -----> 40
 MEDKIT -------> 60
 TELEPORTER ---> 60
 POWERUP ------> 120
 MEGA HEALTH*--> 110

* - The Mega Health varies from arena to arena.

%%%~GAME TYPES~%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

------------
Free For All
---(FFA)----
This is the classic form of deathmatch. It's every man, woman, and sinister
alien being for him/her/it's self as the players frag everything that moves to
get the most points. Abbreviation = FFA

---------------
Team Deathmatch
-----(TD)------
Its red against blue in a co-ordinated contest of carnage. Two teams of players
work to control the arena and score the most frags on their foes. Note that
respawn times will increase quite dramitically from the ones shown further up.
Abbreviation = TD.

------------
 TOURNAMENT
--(touney)--
Players fight each other one-on-one, while future foes watch as spectators. The
watchers wait their turns to be the challenger who wrests control of arena from
the most recent victor. Abbreviation = tourney.

----------------
CAPTURE THE FLAG
------(CTF)-----
Slip into the other teeams home base, grab its flag, and run home to score. What
could be simpler? Now do it while dodging heavy artillery fire and you've got an
idea of how this fast moving game feels. Score the most and win. Note, that if
you have the enemys flag, and they have yours, no one can score until one of the
flags is returned. Abbreviation = CTF.

------2. T E C H N I Q U E S-------
================================================================================

There are many skills and techniques you will need to learn to complete the game
on a hard difficulty. These range from blowing yourself up to reach high places
and running round in circles till you fall over.....

R O C K E T J U M P
This is the most useful technique you can use. Plus, it doesnt take ages to get
used to it. Ever seen a ledge that you just can't get to whatever you try. Then
look away from the ledge, aim down, jump and while your in mid air shoot a
rocket and hold the backwards key. You'll get a considerable boost to your jump,
that will allow you to get to higher places, nice camping spots where no one
would think of looking, (above a door when someones chasing you is my favorite!)
The good thing is...you don't lose much damage if you do it properly. The bad
thing is however...you die and lose a frag if you dont do it properly. But it
can of course be incredibly useful.

S P L A S H D A M A G E
This is once again widely used by the rocket launcher, not so much a skill, but
more of a aim-next-to-the-person sorta thing. For example if you try to hit
someone with a rocket launcher head on, 90% of the time you'll miss, unless you
are really, really good. So, to overcome this problem, aim at the floor their
feet are standing on, and when there against a wall, aim for the wall, and, if
there in a corner then you can go for either wall, or the floor. Thats why you
don't wanna be stuck in a corner in this game. You will be whipped. So remember,
aim for the floor, or even the ceiling if they're high enough.

S O U N D
Sound is the key to everlasting fraggin'. However, it is hard to hear the
footsteps, coming from the game as they're quiet, and you listen more to the
guns firing, which are very loud compared to the footsteps. So, instead of
cranking up the volume, and scaring the sh*t out of your neighbours, put on
headphones, because they lock out all the sound except for whats happening in
the game, which if you try, will help a bunch. Plus if you listen really hard
then you'll even be able to hear the grunts and moans of your foes. Usually, the
lower the pitch of the grunt, or moan, the less the opponent is on. Use this to
check if they have much health, so you know they're weak before you go barging
in like a bull in a china shop.

C I R C L E S T R A F I N G
Circle Strafing can be very difficult, depending on what keys you've assigned to
what actions, (see below at section 8, misc. for my key setup). To do it you
must hold the left strafe key and the right turn key then use the mouse to look
around up and down. And vice versa. To be honest with everyone, I never use
circle strafing, and I do better than a lot of people out there who are experts
at it. However there are also lots of people who I have not beat who are experts
at strafing round in circles. I myself prefer jumping around like crazy, which
brings me to my next point........

J U S T J U M P A R O U N D
Jumping around works for me, even though its very tricky at first, after a while
you'll be jumping up and down, left and right. The reason I prefer to just jump
is because, first of all, you are a lot harder to hit, and you will move a lot
faster when you strafe jump, which is just a jump when your strafing. The only
problem is, its a lot harder to aim, which means that if you are a good aim,
then jump, if your not then circle strafe. It's that simple. Plus if your good
at both or bad at both then just jump and circle strafe! Or you can just put
down the game and play something else, but that would be crazy, wouldn't it?!
NOTE: If you dont know what strafing is, its walking sideways.

There are nine unique weapons in Quake III Arena, each with its own pros and
cons. The weapons could have done with a secondary mode each, as that would have
doubled the amount weapons in a sense. But, the nine weapons are very well
designed and even though they're missing a second function they are still great
weapons.

The gauntlet can be used when you have no ammo for other weapons. If you can get
close to someone it will kill them usually in one or two hits, however the only
way to get really close to someone is if you sneak up on them. Otherwise you
will get killed as you run towards them. It is best to go out and away from
people to get either some ammo or a new weapon. But if you know some tricks and
techniques then you could almost win a match using just the gauntlet, For
example you can trick people when they are chasing you, round a corner you can
stop and crouch down, and when they come speeding around the corner use your
gauntlet on them, as your crouching down you will also be harder to hit, so
could actually just try to lure people around corners so that you can kill them
off quickly and painlessly.

This is the best default weapon as most, if not all, have pistols as the default
weapon but Quake III changes that making the default weapon a trusty Machine
Gun, that if used properly can mow down weak opponents, but beware of healthy
opponents with better weaponary because they shall kill you first. When in the
situation of a person running away from you shoot them in the back of the head,
as they will die quicker. However beware of running around corners as a person
could be waiting with a Gauntlet ready to grind you bad. In simpler terms, the
machine gun is good, but not too good on one on ones with a strong opponent, as
they will no doubt have a bigger gun, and bigger health.

The shotgun is a favorite among many, because of its strength and the speed of
the shells it shoots. There are a few tips that you can be told but practicing
with the weapon will result in you fraggin' everyone you can get close to. The
closer you get the better because with one pull of the trigger the gun releases
not one, not ten, but eleven bullets at once. And when you shoot the longer the
bullets remain in the air the wider they spur apart, which means if your at
close range you will hit the target with all eleven bullets, therefore losing
110 off their health. The further away you are will result in only hurting them
of about 10 health points.

This is what I think is the worst weapon in the game, i mean you can be good
with them its just that you can't run into a room and kill everyone with a
grenade launcher, because its too hard to use. However if you are a camper then
I would have to reccomend you use this weapon, but you see thats why I hate this
weapon, cos I hate campers. The one way that I ever use this weapon is when I'm
getting chased through a corridor, I shoot one ahead of me then run round the
corner and shoot more, to make a big pile, (sort of a booby trap -- Ooops, i
said a baaad word!) for the unexpectant person following you. That way he is
most likely to die, and if he doesn't get any other weapon ready to finish him
off, preferably the machine gun because of its fast fire rate.

This is a great weapon, if not a tad too simplistic, it shoots very well, and is
the weapon that is mainly used for battles, unless you can get your hands on a
Bfg 10K. The best way to use this is to aim for your foes feet, to get splash
damage as it is incredibly hard to get a direct hit unless your right up close
to each other. So aim for their feet to get splash damage, and also you can use
it to knock them into natural hazards, such as molten lava or scalding acid. Or
of course you can just knock your target right off into obliivion. When you are
being shot at head on by a rocket launcher, you can actually see the rockets
coming towards you, use the few seconds you get to dodge the rocket by either
jumping, crouching, or even better strafe far, far away. Remember to keep away
from any walls, to avoid splash damage, as most of the computer bots will aim
directly for you, so just keep away from walls, strafe a lot, and you can avoid
getting hit at all. Remember to rocket jump as well. (Check section 2 techniques
to see how!).

The lightning gun is not used often, because even though its powerful it is not
used often by people. However relatively speaking it could probably be counted
as the most powerful gun in the game. With its constant fire rate, and it
inflicts about 20 points every second you hold it on someone, if you had your
aim on someone for 5 seconds they will most probably die. So if you've got a
good aim, I highly recommended that you use this gun in one on ones mostly but
also in team games. I myself have a bad mouse and mouse pad, so I, at the
moment, am sticking to my trusty ol' Rocket Launcher and Shotgun, as they are my
personal favourites.

This is missing one thing to make the game, and this weapon better....a scope. I
mean, technically it is a sniper rifle without a scope. Just imagine if it had a
scope??? Ah well, what ya gonna do?! The rail gun has a very aggravating fire
rate, you have to wait almost five seconds before you can actually shoot off
another bullet. However, it does inflict a massive 100 points on the victim if
you can manage to shoot them (without the scope). If I was you I wouldnt try
running into the midst of a battle with the rail gun equipped as you will get
fragged within seconds! Note, that when you use the Use Zoom command you will
get a nice scope when using the Rail Gun. Thanks to DeJacksterpoo for telling me
this.

The plasma gun is a very powerful piece of weaponary. It unleashes a deadly
stream of plasma pulses that rapidly consume its energy supply. Since the balls
do not reach its target instantly it means that you will have to try and aim
where the target WILL be in half a second or so , so shoot in front of the
target, or you could sway the mouse left to right, and vice versa therefore
makin a sea of plasma balls, which will be very hard to dodge, and will kill 90%
of the time. Be careful as the plasma balls give off some slight splash damage.
Which will wear your health down quite quickly. Practice with this gun and you
will become virtually invincible against the computer opponents. Then, if you
keep on practicing you will be virtually invincible against human opponents,
(until you play me of course!).

This is one powerful weapon, the best Bgf in a Quake/Doom game ever that I have
used. Take all the best parts of the plasma gun, the rocket launcher and the old
Bfg, and you have this beast. It has the plasma guns plasma balls, and high fire
rate, the rocket launchers power and splash damage and the same idea as the last
Bfg, (mass destruction), and you have the Bfg 10K. However, if you have Quad
Damage dont bother using this as you would waste it, because it will kill
everyone when you dont have Quad Damage, so keep it until your Quad Damage
expires, then pull out the Bfg and kill all the vengeful people coming back
after you.

------4. ITEMS---------------------
================================================================================

Items play a big part in Quake III, most especially the Quad Damage, which is
every players dream. Also you need the health vials to keep you alive, the armor
for extra protection and last but not least ammo to keep your inventory stocked
up.

-----------------------------------
 ~ P E R S O N A L T E L E P O R T E R ~

The personal teleporter can be quite a useful item. It can be used anywhere, at
any time, but the best two times to use it are; (a) When you are in combat with
lots of people and you are on the verge of dieing or have very little, or no
ammo. (b) If you cant seem to find anyone in the arena you can use the
teleporter, to hopefully place yourself in the midst of battle, but also you
should make sure you are ready to battle before using it.
-----------------------------------
 ~ M E D K I T ~

This is also a very useful tool because whenever you are low on health and you
can't find any health anywhere you can use it to regain your health. Also
whenever you in the midst of battle and have low health you can use to regain
your health and that will give you a large edge on who wins that one battle as
he will be on low health and will probably run off to find more.
-----------------------------------
 ~ A R M O R ~

Armor is always needed since it takes 2/3 of the damage for you, so the more
armor you have the less your health will ever get seriously damaged. In any game
you should always be on the lookout for more armor, And in no circumstances
should you look over the Armor Shards, as 10 of them will give you 50 armor
points, and if you keep track of where they are you'll be up to over a hundred
armor in no time. Also, once you get over 100 armor you will slowly lose an
armor point each second until it gets back down to 100.

RED ARMOR - 100 points
YELLOW ARMOR - 50 points
ARMOR SHARD - 5 points
-----------------------------------
 ~ H E A L T H ~

One of the most important things you'll ever need in the game. This not only
keeps you alive but if you collect a lot of small green health bouses you will
gain superhuman health. Especially if you collect the rare blue mega health
item. If you have no armor then all the damage you recieve will be taken off
your health total. Also you shou;d've noticed that as soon as you get over 100
in health points, you will slowly lose a point each second, until you get back
down to 100.

GREEN HEALTH - 5 points GOLD HEALTH - 50 points
YELLOW HEALTH - 25 points BLUE HEALTH - 100 points
-----------------------------------
 ~ Q U A D D A M A G E ~

This is the ultimate powerup, however it does quadruple your power, but it
triples it, so a direct rocket launcher blast will do a huge 300 damage. The
best weapons to use when you have the Quad Damage is the Gauntlet, Shotgun,
Rocket Launcher and the Lightning Gun. The gauntlet will deal 150 in one shot
which is good when everyones chasing you, you can either run at them with the
gauntlet and just literally mow through them, or you can blast a rocket their
way and watch them all run. Or what else is really effective is the lightning
gun which will kill in two seconds if you keep your aim on the target. The
shotgun will easily kill in one shot from quite a distance if they have no
armor, and even when they have full armor from up close. Whenever someone else
has the Quad Damage, remember they are not invincible, in fact, they are usually
the weakest in the arena, so if you get one rocket off at them you can pick up
the Quad Damage for yourself. The Quad Damage is the blue powerup. The following
is how much damage each weapon will inflict when you hold the Quad Damage
powerup........

Regeneration is an item that will, once you have picked it up, gain you 15
health points until you get to 100, then you will gain 5 extra health points
until you get to a maximum of 200. This is best used when you are in a battle as
you will not lose points in mid-battle, instead you will gain them! However
taking a direct rocket blast or two will still blow you away. By the way,
regeneration item is the red one of an angel.

This will help you considerable in battle as you will move over twice as fast as
you did previously if you rush into battle, you will be incredibly hard to kill,
and combined with decent jumping skills you will be almost invicible. This is
called the Speed Item, however, when you pick it up, the ever so familiar dark,
gloomy voice, will say 'Haste'. The speed/haste item is a white lightning bolt.

Invisibility does not make you invisible, but partially invisible, because if
you get quite close to the invisible person, you can see their white outline.
But if you dont let people get close, when you have it, you will be invisible to
their eyes, and can shoot most weapons, without being known where you are.
However, listed below are the weapons that will let your destination be
known......

 ~ B A T T L E S U I T ~

The battle suit is got to be one of the most useful powerups, as it makes you
immune to damage, you can walk and swim in lava and acid without getting hurt,
and rocket jump to your hearts content without taking any damage at all.
However, be warned as you will still die from falling into the void, which if
you didn't know is the black sky (space). The powerup itself lasts thirty
seconds and is a twirling brown radioactive symbol.
-----------------------------------
 ~ F L I G H T ~

This is just totally pathetic. Pick it up and you can fly for thirty seconds. Of
course though this makes you ten times easier to hit, as you can't jump at all,
and aiming is much harder. And since this is only used on the worst level in the
game, it suits the level nicely. There is absolutely no cons to the flight
powerup except you can reach high places easier. However, making it to those
higher places is almost impossible as you are flying around way too slow. In
simpler terms, you will be fragged if you pick this up.
-----------------------------------
 ~ A M M O B O X E S ~

Ammo is always needed unless you get fragged quite quickly. Because sooner or
later you will run out of ammo, and will need the aid of an ammo box. Each ammo
box has its own colour for the weapon it is used for. Below is a table showing
the colour of the box, what kind of ammo it is, what weapon its used for, and
how much ammo you get in each box. Also, you can see that that there are two
green boxes. The way to tell them apart is by the marking on each ammo box.
Maybe in the future I will have ASCII pictures for each symbol.....

This is not so much a walkthrough, but more of a....well....erm......Quake is
just really a deathmatch aspect of game so you don't have goals, except to kill
as much people as you can. But I'll give you info on every level in the Single
Player Game. Such as, what weapons, and items are available. And also who you
are up against. But if its a walkthrough your after, then don't worry cos after
i've finished all the level details I'll add a walkthrough to each level, so you
can 'walk-through' them easily! God I'm funny! First of all, to make it easier
for me and maybe you, there is a key to follow! And remember that you have a
Gauntlet and Machine Gun on every level. And there is ammo for every weapon that
is in the level.

%%%~INTRODUCTION~%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

This is not really a proper deathmatch, but more of a tutorial. You appear in a
room with armor, a shotgun and two green healths (5). Pick them up then proceed
through the portal to enter the middle room which has two plasma gun ammo boxes
and a orange health (50). The room ahead has a shotgun and another two green
healths. The corridor to your left leads to a plasma gun, two yellow healths
(25), three armor shards and some shotgun ammo. The corridor going off to the
right has another armor and a yellow health.

%%%~ARENA GATE~%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

This level consists of two main rooms. One of these has a rocket launcher in the
centre of it with health and armor shards scattered at the sides, there is also
a shotgun in the building to the left. The other room has a plasma gun in the
centre and a giant mouth at the back, with a Heavy Armor in that mouth. Then
there are two corridors joining the two rooms.

%%%~HOUSE OF PAIN~%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

There are three areas worth pointing out in this arena. One is the room you will
most usually spawn in. It is the outdoor part of the arena and has a plasma gun,
armor and various ammo boxes and health. From this room you can get to the other
two rooms by using the three passageways. If you take the passageway where the
armor is you will get to a door on your left where the rocket launcher is and
also 3 boxes of machine gun ammunition. However, this is a good room to ambush
people going to get the rocket launcher as you can hide in the two alcoves to
each side and then open fire on an unsuspecting foe. The third room where you
can get to is the room that contains the heavy armor below, in the water, and
also the special powerup Haste/Speed. There is also a shotgun, and some
ammunition and health in this room.

This level is almost like a large room in the middle which then has a walkway
leading all around the outer of the arena. The Heavy Armor is situated at the
walkway in the middle room. The large stairs in this arena is where the two bots
will be heading to most often, since this is where the Rocket Launcher and
plasma gun are, however if the rocket launcher is there and the plasma gun is
not pick up the rocket launcher and a plasma gun will take its place and vice
versa. The grenade launcher is on the outer walkway in one of the corners, its
in a small dark room.

When you spawn in you will be in a room with three ways to go. Forward will take
you to some Armor and a Shotgun. Left will take you to the powerup Regeneration.
And right will take you to a Rocket Launcher. There is also a passageway that
joins the room with the shotgun and the room with the Regeneration powerup,
however the Rocket Launcher room is a room with only one exit which means that
you can trap someone in the room by popping around the corner and shooting
rockets their way.

%%%~THE PLACE OF MANY DEATHS~%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

There are 6 main areas in this level. One is where you first spawn in, the
stairs. Look behind you and there is some Heavy Armor and a yellow health. Go up
the stairs and there are three different paths to take. Right and Left are
symetrical rooms that will lead you up two flights of stairs and then to the
Rocket Launcher which is main area 2. Drop down into the next room where the
Quad Damage is. This is the central room. Now left and right you have more
symetrical rooms, this time each room holds a shotgun. These rooms are areas 4
and 5. Now if you turn so that your going away from the first stairs you will
find yourself in a large room with a portal, which takes you to the top of the
first stairs, and a Plasma Gun. Area 6. Simple.

This level seems confusing the first time you play it, but it only consists of
three rooms. One of rooms is inside the building and has the shotgun, there is
also a jump-pad there. The other two rooms have a walkway going over them. One
of the large rooms has a pulse gun at the bottom and a grenade launcher on the
walkway. The other large room has a rocket launcher on the ground and some Heavy
Armor on the walkway. The confusing part is all the passageways connecting the
rooms. But once you learn where all the passageways lead then you'll have this
level sussed.

This is actually quite a large arena, it consists of a few large rooms, with
walkways above them, and also quite a few stairs as well. The main battle area
is the stairs where the armor is and there are 4 ammo boxes at the base of the
stairs, this is where most of the peeps hang about. If you can find the stairs
where there are four large blue pillars in the middle of them, find the jump pad
to get up a level. Up here there is some Heavy Armor, a Mega Health, a personal
teleporter, and four ammo boxes. Once you get to this room then head out for the
Quad Damage. To get to the Quad Damage jump down to the bottom of the blue
stairs, then get the plasma gun and turn to your right, there's the Quad Damage.
If you want the Rocket Launcher go up the jump pad near you and its just up
their. Now hunt down all the opposition with the Plasma Gun, you'll be virtually
invincible!

One of the greatest levels in Quake III. This level has a teleporter that warps
you from the top of the level to the bottom floor. The very bottom floor has a
lightening gun and some yellow body armor, underneath the main room is where all
the jump pads are and the rocket launcher. You will find armor shards almost
anywhere in this level and a lot of ammo for your shotgun and rocket launcher.
However, the ammo for the lightning gun is far away from the actual gun.

%%%~TEMPLE OF RETRIBUTION~%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

This is probably the biggest level in Quake III, its main areas is the very
large room which has the railgun, quad damage item, and the yellow armor down
below in the lava filled room. This is where most of the battling goes on. The
red armor is located in the secret kinda jail cell place. To get there you must
first find where the Personal Teleporter is, on top of a bridge in a usually
empty room. Near to the Personal Teleporter there is a rocket launcher and a
green flashing switch on the wall just touch the switch and you'll see a grating
below open up below. Go down the grating and you'll be in a misty room. The red
armor is in here. To get out go to the opposite end of the room and the grating
will automatically open. This area is also a very violent room. If you go and
get the rocket launcher then turn right and go up the ramp you will find another
yellow armor. Note that there are plenty of places to Rocket Jump to on this
arena.

The two main areas in this level are the Water room where the Rail Gun and Heavy
Armor is and of course the centre room. In the centre room the Quad Damage and
Invisibility share a spawn spot, and the plasma calls this room home too. At the
beginning of the game head to the centre room and grab a plasma gun and then
grab either Quad Damage or the Invisibility powerup. If you get the Quad Damage
head to the water room from above and shoot plenty of rockets into the water at
all the slow moving people trying to get to the Heavy Armor. And if youu got the
Invisibility do the same since almost nobody will notice you, however keep an
eye from behind you in case you get ambushed.

This is also one of my favorite levels, for a number of reasons, mostly because
of its simple level design. It also has a very good way of getting to the red
armor, and although dangerous it is still a great bounce getting to it. Two main
room, with lots of ways to get to them, the Red Armor is above on the walkway in
the room with the railgun. The Rocket Launcher is in the largest of the rooms.
However you need to use the jump pad to get to it, although you can jump to it

This is a real bad and aggravating level, the series of walkways going across
lava makes this a really boring level, you just cant suprise anyone. The middle
walkway is where the powerup Battle Suit spawns every two minutes. The railgun

two high sharp pointed pillars. The red armor is directly below the railgun. The
yellow armor is next to one of the plasma guns.

in, however the Mega Health is a dangerous thing to get since its high up in the
air and the jump pads in the middle of a lava pool, so wait till theres no one
around before you go jumping for it. The rocket launchers in the same room as
the Red Armor which is where you want to stay to et some frags as theres usually
a lot of people pass through this room, and if you dont kill them you'll surely
knock them into the scalding acid. There are lots of long, very narrow shortcuts
and also some short wide passageways where lots of battling goes on. An
excellent arena if your playing lots of people, bout ten or more.

%%%~THE DREDWERKZ~%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

This is my favorite level because of its design and the high rooms. Also it has
every weapon, even the Bfg 10K like most levels do not. The Regeneration powerup
is located in the middle of the water tunnel. Then if you go up you'll get to a
Bfg 10K. Go through the portal and you have some yellow armor and a great
sniping spot. Drop down onto the left platform and you've got a Quad Damage, if
someone hasn't already picked it up. Now just keep jumping around shooting at
everything you can, most people will be battling in the water which will make it
much easier for you to kill them. To get the Mega Health you have to get to the
opening above it and then drop down. You can also rocket jump to it from below.
The Red Armor is situated in the largest outdoor area, the one with the
teleporter. The Personal teleporter is on a ledge in the small room at the end
of the water tunnel. To get to it you must first use the jump pad to get up
where the plasma gun is and then jump down onto the ledge from above.

This arena consists of one building in the middle and walkways circling that
building. The level has three different levels each with its own weapons and
items. The Red Armor is above a doorway on the second floor. Jump onto the ledge
from the top floor. The mega health is just on the middle floor. Inside the
building there is a railgun at the top floor and two 25 point health vials on
the ground and first floor. The rocket launcher is around the middle walkway
outside. The plasma gun sits on the bottom floor. And the shotgun on the top
floor again.

This is a great arena for fighting between two or three people, the Red armor is
accessed by dropping down a small gap at the wall in the sorta middle section
below the rocket launcher. The Quad Damage is accessed by jumping off from where
the rocket launcher is and then you can jump back onto the nearby ledge. There
are numerous yellow armors scattered round the middle floor. And the medkit is
around behind a jump pad. The mega health can be reached by dropping down onto
it below or by a small rocket jump, (I have also heard of a minor glitch that
will allow you to jump normally and get the Mega Health, however I do not know
it).

A great level that I don't seem to like, mostly because I always get lost on
this level, and I therefore I always lose. There are lot of great weapons on
this level! The Bfg 10K is on an island surrounded in lava except for a slow
miving platform that is where 99% of stupid people get killed everytime,
especially since there is a sniping point with a rail gun and ammo above. The
best way to get to the Bfg 10K is from above, next to the personal teleporter,
which is near the yellow armor, there is a narrow gap, fall down this gap and
you will be slightly above the Bfg 10K. Get the gun kill anyone around the room
and then when the small moving platform is in the middle of the two bits of
land, jump quickly onto it and then onto the land again, this way you won't have
to stand on it like a sitting duck. The Mega Health is in a crevice in the
central area near the yellow armor. To get to the red armor easily, just go to
the room with the Bfg and find the jump pad, jump up and look around a bit and
you'll find it. In the room just beyond the Red Armor you'll also find the
Powerup spot, which is usually a beautiful Quad Damage.

This is one of my favorites. Its just like a castle with a sorta outdoor
playpen. Lots of jump pads and places to hide on the outdoor of the castle. Of
course, you'll have to rocket jump to get to most of the places. The Mega Health
is near the back of the castle, you'll have to jump on the jump pads to reach it
though because its up high. The Rocket Launcher is in the largest of the rooms
inside the castle, the room also has two jump pads which will take you higher up
the castle onto the next floor. The Bfg is pretty hard to get, its in the air
outside, but to get it you'll have to rocket jump onto the jump pad outside that
seems to be unreachable. When you hit the jump pad, you'll fly through the air,
pass through the Bfg and then land on the ledge where the Red Armor. The
computer opponents don't know how to rocket jump so they won't even know that
there is red armor or a Bfg.

God, this is a very misty level as you can see. I personally hate this level,
not that I lose all the time, just that I hate the level design. One big room,
with walls seperating it into roofless passages. There is a Quad Damage on top
of one of the walls, either go around and up the stairs or rocket jump to
it.There is one yellow armor, and few places to hide or camp at all. To get away
from someone whos chasing you with a good weapon rocket jump over a wall,
because they may not see where you went and then you can secretly jump behind
them off the wall and in a few seconds they are dead, regardless of what weapon
they have.

This entire FAQ is copyright Magus 2000.

Quake III:Arena is copyright id 1999/2000. Please do not leech any
of this to make your own FAQ out of it. Unless you have MY permission DO
NOT take anything at all from this guide. Don't edit, don't do anything to
it and submit it without e-mailing me with permission first. You can
print it out, but only for personal use, no selling this! Summing it
up, do anything for your own personal benefit (apart from reading it)
without asking me, AND YOU'LL BURN IN HELL!!!!!

To get in touch, e-mail me at magus@dcmagus.com
My ICQ# is 34601221
My webpage is http://www.dcmagus.com
My MSN contact is dcmagus@hotmail.com, but any email sent to that
address will most likely be ignored, as I don't check that
   account
My AIM name is dcmagus

Be warned that I'm only on the net twice a week, don't expect replies
from me which are ten minutes after you've sent the mail. Here's some
guidelines about sending me mail:

1.Make sure you put the title of the game you're asking about in the
subject. I've made a fair few FAQs, and it's a bit hard to work
  things out sometimes.

2.If it's an FAQ, make sure that it's not already in the guide!!! If
it is, I'll do my best to ignore it.

If it's not in there, make sure that the details you provide
are, well, DETAILED, and not sketchy. Examples are "Hi need to know
how to get past this part, i'm in a room and stuck", I need to know
  where you are, etc.

3.Ask nicely. So far, most people have, but if your mail goes along
the lines of "Hi, need code for B2, reply within the next hour
otherwise I'll bomb you" will not get you anywhere.

That's it. Sorry for being a pain, but it had to be said.

1)Introduction
--------------------------------------------------------------------

"Untold centuries ago the Vadrigar, the mysterious Arena Masters,
constructed the Arena Eternal for their own infernal amusement.
Virtually nothing is known of these beings except that they savor
the carnage and clamor of battle. As such, they have stocked the
arena with the greatest warriors of all time. And you have just
joined their ranks.

As a gladiator in the Arena Eternal, you must not only survive, but
also win each and every battle against ever more powerful opponents.
Don't worry overly much about getting "fragged." The Vadrigar won't
be cheated of their favorite sport by a little thing like death.
Those who fall are instantly restored to life and immediately thrust
back into the battle, perhaps a little wiser for their misfortunes.

When the dust, blood, and gibs settle, all warriors will have earned
the right to battle again, providing further entertainment for the
Vadrigar. But only the warrior who has fragged the most foes will
be lauded as the winner. The victorious gladiator advances to a more
challenging array of arenas, until, at last, he or she faces Xaero,
Lord of the Final Arena."

Quake III:Arena, is by far one of the most dazzling FPS experiences
I've ever had (Half-Life and possibly Thief/System Shock 2 beating
it. To all of you UT fans, I'm sorry, but Q3 is definetly, and by
FAR, the better game. Enough chat. There's only one thing that you'll
need to remember, and it's stated in the game manual:

--------------------------------------------------------------------
2)Weapons and Items
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Weapons

There are about nine weapons or so, and each has it's own strengths
and weaknesses. Remember, even though it's supposed to be an all
out frag fest, there's a bit of strategy involved.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Gauntlet
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Starting Ammo :Doesn't Apply
Max. Ammo :Doesn't Apply
Range :Point Blank
Speed :Doesn't Apply
Direct Hit Damage :50
Rate Of Fire :Doesn't Apply

The basic weapon. Much like the chainsaw, axe, crowbar, etc. Sure,
you'll probably only use it as a last resort, but it's quite
effective. No, really. When in close quarters, you can mow through
a pack of bots quite easily, then turn around and get them again.
If you corner your opponent, you can then kill him/her quite easily.
My strategy is to do that, to round up your opponent and then kill
them. Oh, if you have the Quad Damage, this is one of the weapons
which is effective and won't kill you at close range.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Machinegun
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Starting Ammo :100
Max. Ammo :200
Range :Anywhere
Speed :Instant Shot
Direct Hit Damage :7, 5 when in teamplay
Rate Of Fire :Very High

The Machinegun. Basically, it's useless. You'll mow through the ammo
so easily that it's not funny. Damage is low, but it's fast, and the
only things I can think of to do with it are to: use it to distract
your pursuer/s, clean up or help with a battle between two other bots,
or use it wildly when you've got Quad Damage. Even though it won't
hurt much, it'll still hurt a bit.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Shotgun
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Starting Ammo :10
Max. Ammo :200
Range :Anywhere
Speed :Instant Shot
Direct Hit Damage :Depends on how close you are, up close is 100+,
across the room it can be 10.
Rate Of Fire :Slow

OH YEAH! I love this weapon. It is the best weapon to use at point
blank - you can't argue with 100+ damage - and is pretty good when
you're firing into a pack of bots. For some reason, the patterns of
the shells aren't fixed, meaning they can fly out in any way, making
it not such a good weapon from long range.

Plasma Gun
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Starting Ammo :50
Max. Ammo :200
Range :Anywhere
Speed :Medium
Direct Hit Damage :20
Rate Of Fire :Very High

This is basically a Machinegun which fires balls of plasma instead.
It's great for clearing out rooms, but it's not really a sniping
weapon as each projectile is very visible. And since they can be
seen quite easily, enemies will be able to dodge them quite easily,
so spread out your shots (shake your mouse from side to side). This
really comes alive with Quad Damage on.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Grenade Launcher
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Starting Ammo :10
Max. Ammo :200
Range :Small
Speed :Slllllllooooooowwwwwwwwwwww
Direct Hit Damage :120
Rate Of Fire :Medium

This is a great weapon for campers. It's more of a defensive tool
than it is offensive, as people tend to run away from them. It's
effective when you need to clear out a pack of bots too busy
fighting. Splash Damage is also considerably high. One more use for
them, when you're running around a corner from someone, drop a whole
stack down, and they'll run right into them. Boom.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Rocket Launcher
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Starting Ammo :10
Max. Ammo :200
Range :Anywhere
Speed :Slow
Direct Hit Damage :100
Rate Of Fire :Medium

Well, to be honest, it's not what I expected. Quake's RL was better,
but nothing's perfect. Anyway. It's still a pretty good weapon, that
deals a lot of damage and goes far. You'll need to use a bit of
strategy with this weapon, as unless you're at point blank range,
your target will end up dodging it. When enemies have it, they can be
extremely annoying, and instead of direct hits, will try to inflict
some splash damage on you. But this should be the main weapon of
your impressive arsenal.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Lightning Gun
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Starting Ammo :100
Max. Ammo :200
Range :Medium
Speed :Instant Shot
Direct Hit Damage :8
Rate Of Fire :Doesn't Stop

You'll need to be quite accurate for this weapon to be used effectively.
It's limited range doesn't help much either, and it's hardly up on
any of the good maps. Either that, or it's hard to find. It does
make a small noise when fired, so if you hear a little buzz, or see
a streak of blue in the air, you'll know someone's got ahold of this.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Rail Gun
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Starting Ammo :10
Max. Ammo :200
Range :Anywhere
Speed :Instant Hit
Direct Hit Damage :100
Rate Of Fire :Slow

Whoo! The Rail Gun makes a return, and by golly it's good. Instant
kills! Instant hits! Yes! Too bad that it's slow to fire. It's the
perfect weapon for campers and snipers, and you'll need to practise
before you can really be a Rail Gun master. You'll need to practise
A LOT. An extremely dangerous weapon.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
BFG10K
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Starting Ammo :20
Max. Ammo :200
Range :Anywhere
Speed :Fast
Direct Hit Damage :100
Rate Of Fire :Fast

Now...imagine you could create a superweapon. What would you choose?
A Plasma Gun that's as poweful as the RL? Well, then you've got the
BFG10K!!! This is the sweetest weapon that any game could ever have.
But the levels that include the BFG probably have it hidden away in
some strange, far away land...so search for it, and then you'll be
unstoppable!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Items
--------------------------------------------------------------------

There's two types of items, one which are used straight away, and
ones that can be used at your will. The ones that are used straight
away only last for 30 seconds. If an opponent dies and drops an
item, the count will stay the same as when the opponent had it, e.g
if the Quad Damage had 10 seconds left to go when he died, and you
pick it up, you'll have 10 seconds to use it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Items which are used straight away
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Armor

No matter if it's light or heavy, armor saves you from taking two
thirds of the damage you'd usually take. Always stock up, as this
might save your life in a heated battle.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Battle Suit
--------------------------------------------------------------------

What this will do is protect you from any form of splash damage at
all (splash damage is for example, when a rocket hits the wall right
next to you and you still get damaged). So this means that falling
from high places, falling into lava, rocket jumping etc. will not
damage you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Flight
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Only available on one level, and it's really not much of a help
anyway. What it does is that it enables you to walk on air. Up, down,
left, right...it sure looks funny when someone's got it. It's really
not worth getting.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Haste/Speed
--------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a pretty awesome item. What it does is it speeds your
movements up, and also speeds up your rate of fire. Combine this
with say, the Plasma Gun, BFG10K, or the Lightning Gun, you can
knock your opponent out before they know what hit them. It's also
great for when you're being chased by some idiot. Now, all you have
to do is pick up a BFG10K with 200 ammo, and then the Quad Damage...

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Invisibility
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, they lied. You are slightly visible at close range, but it's
the ideal item for the camper/sniper. Your weapon output is still
visible. So if you think you can get away by firing your Plasma Gun
all over the place, think again. Don't mix this with Quad Damage,
otherwise the glowing effect of the Quad will just cancel the whole
invisible idea. Basically, equip the Rail Gun and pretend you're
Garrett from Thief (sneak around), but this time your mission is
to kill.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Quad Damage
--------------------------------------------------------------------

YES!!! The only thing they got wrong was the name, it should be
called Tri Damage or something, as it doesn't deal 4 times the usual
damage. This is the best item in the whole game, and usually the
first guy to reach this will have an immeadiate stranglehold on the
game.

Don't use the RL when you've got Quad Damage, unless it's from far,
far away. Just remember, 3 times the damage, so if it splashes,
you're gone. Stick to the Plasma Gun, Machinegun, Shotgun and the
(SURPRISE!) Gauntlet. The BFG10K should be saved to surprise
everyone afterwards, to show them that you don't need the Quad to be
powerful, and the Rail Gun kills in one shot anyway.

Just be careful when someone picks the Quad up. What you'll want to
do is to kill the person who's got it, swiftly, and then grab it for
yourself. Otherwise, one word.

Run.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Regeneration
--------------------------------------------------------------------

This item gradually increases your health, but not to above 200. If
you're under the 100 health mark, it raise by 15 health per second,
and when you're over 100, it'll raise by 5 per second. This helps when
you're going to rush into a battle.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Items which you have to use
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Medkit

With a press of a button, this handy item will bring you back up to
100 health. It's not that effective, and you'll usually use it just
as you're about to die, but then, it's easy to mistime.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Personal Teleporter
--------------------------------------------------------------------

This takes you to a random location in the map. Sure, it sounds good
when you're falling to your death, but using it to get out of a
battle is just plain cowardness.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
3)Skills
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Skills. Special Moves. Hints. Tips. Whatever.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Rocket Jump
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Everyone should know about the Rocket Jump. Once you've got the RL,
simply jump up while looking at the ground, and fire to get a big
boost. You'll take a small amount of damage, but it does get you to
your destination quicker. And don't use it when you're on low life,
just don't.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Splash Damage
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Just remember, with the RL and some other weapons, you don't have to
hit the opponent directly to deal damage, rather, you can aim for a
section of wall/floor near the opponent and you'll still deal some
damage, albeit less than you would if you hit them directly. Great
for those levels where they're walking on platforms right above you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Sound
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Sound plays a part in the game. No, serious. If you listen out for
the respawn sound, footsteps, weapon/item pickup sounds, you can
quickly find the opponent and kill him/her, or prepare yourself for
a close-quarters battle. If you're trying to sneak up on someone,
don't run, walk and your footsteps will not be heard as you frag
them with the Rail Gun.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Bounce/Acceleration Pads
--------------------------------------------------------------------

New additions to the Quake series are helpful and annoying. Bounce
Pads are the yellow (well, usually yellow) circles on the ground that
once stepped on, catapault you higher. This is great for getting to
higher places, but when you're in the air, you're extremely vunerable,
and snipers with Rail Guns can easily cane you.

Acceleration Pads are those silver ramps that will launch you very
far in the direction that it's facing. First class airline travel.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Crouching
--------------------------------------------------------------------

You probably won't notice, but when you're crouching, you can still
hit the enemy while without yourself being hit easily. So crouch when
getting into Gauntlet duels. Gauntlet duels? Yeah, sure...
